It was three of us travelling together so we booked a large 'family' room. Upon arrival, we were left sitting in the lobby for quite a while as the desk manager told us our room was not ready. He finally said the room did not have power so they put us in two rooms instead. Initially we thought that was...

We stayed one night in a suite when passing through Sandakan. The elevator and hallway on our floor didn't inspire much confidence, but when we opened the door we were greeted by a spacious, tastefully renovated room, although a little on the dark side. Some floors are still being renovated. Not sure how much of a disturbance this might be...

Such a lovely place with budget cost. I got govt rate as well. Welcome drinks are served upon request at anytime you want. The receptionist lady was not really informative that i had to ask about almost everything. She didn't even tell me about the welcome drinks, etc but still she's helpful enough to answer questions from guests. The cafe's...

The webpage and hotel photos are a credit to the photographers art, much like real estate pictures. It's true, downstairs has a mix of shabby Chinese furniture and artefacts. However, this hopeful image is soon dispelled by the grubby, fingerprinted elevator, and the dirty walls of the hall. "It's just like a backpacker's" my travel partner exclaims, on seeing the...

Stayed there for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. Yes, hotel is a bit worn out but still lovely with all the Chinese furniture and decoration in the lobby, birdcage lamps in the rooms and the Chinese bowl as the sink. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfy. And in the end the roof top bar...

The Nak is a taste of Chinese, Sandakan past. A deceptive, grey building which reveals a lovingly restored interior with artefacts such as delicately painted drawers and large, wooden antique chairs in reception to complete the experience. Even an old fashioned typewriter is in use behind reception!! Bamboo blinds, bird cage light surrounds, parasols and cane furniture creates a cool,...

I enjoyed my stay at the Nak hotel. The rooms were clean, although the decor was a little dated, the showers were hot and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I loved the rooftop restaurant, which is where we recived our welcome drink (non-alcoholic) and breakfast ( both included with the stay). In fact, those caramelized banana pancakes were...

Established in 1966, NAK Hotel retains much of its heyday charms - antiqued windows, mosaic tiles, Chinese porcelain basins, lanterns, bird-cage lamps, classic Chinese music and hospitable staff. Clean, comfortable and affordable, this quaint hotel still proudly stands in the heart of Sandakan town. To top it all, the famous Balin Roof Garden Bistro & Bar is located on the...

I will begin by saying I did not stay at this hotel. I only enjoyed the rooftop bar, but it was a fully enjoyable experience and I was only there for like an hour. My grad school classmates enjoyed many tasty drinks along with great eats. I enjoyed the amazing view and very comfy yet chic atmosphere. This is a...

We stayed here before and after a four day trip to the Kinabatangan River. The room was large, comfortable, and clean though not particularly attractive. Fine for the money. The staff was friendly and helpful. We ate at the bar. The food was mediocre. They do not offer much in the way of authentic Malaysian food; it is mostly Western...
