Stayed at the lodge for 4 days and 3 nights and had a lovely stay.
We saw a lot of animals on the boat ride to the lodge including orangutans, crocodiles, hornbills, Pygmy elephants and proboscis monkeys! The guides were brilliant at animal spotting and...More
We stayed three days & 2 nights at Borneo Nature Lodge. There weren't many others, so it was a private tour for most of the trip. Vincent and the staff are expert wildlife spotters who are very knowledgable about the area/wildlife. It was great that...More
We stayed 2 nights here whilst on our honeymoon in September, and had a brilliant time. You can only get there by boat so it feels really cut off despite the fact that it has some great modern amenities - the rooms all have air-con!...More

Spent 2 superb nights at the lodge.
We had been looking to staying there for sometime and I was not disappointed to say the least. We were greeted by Walter, manager, upon arrival, however, only saw him occasionally for the remainder of our stay.

Yes, we are aware of the various advisories. Sadly, the coastal areas and islands around Semporna have seen incidents of cross-border criminal acts. Currently, there is a Maritime Patrol and Surveillance in place at night for the areas. This relates only to the islands and coast and 5 nautical miles off them as well as sea lanes. This has resulted to better security and hugely boosted confidence. There is no curfew inland and in towns.
On our side, both at Sepilok and lodge, we have had no problems at all. There has also been no incident in Sandakan.
Below is a general note about our place/s:
The recent incident did not happen in Sandakan or anywhere near our place in the Kinabatangan. It occurred in an island (Mabul) off Semporna.
Sabah is a big state.
Semporna is 6 hours by land from Sandakan.
The Kinabatangan is also far from the sea/coast of Lahad Datu or Semporna. It would take 5 hours by boat and road to get from our lodge to Semporna. It would take us 3 hours' non-stop at full speed boat ride to reach the sea.
At all times, our lodge and the rest of the Kinabatangan were free of any incidents. There was no trouble at all. The Kinabatangan remains peaceful.
Visitors who visited the Kinabatangan have also not encountered any incident during their travel and stay.
In addition to the above, please also allow me to explain the steps taken in our area.
Many notable operators in the Kinabatangan came together several years ago to form the KINABATANGAN-CORRIDOR OF LIFE TOURISM OPERATORS ASSOCIATION (KiTA)
We are a member of KiTA.
While the Kinabatangan has been very peaceful, attention to safety and security of tourists has always been an important part of KiTA's agenda.
KiTA is a highly organised grouping of operators. It looks into various aspects including the safety and security of tourists and are constantly in close contact with the Police and other security establishments to ensure a safe Kinabatangan.
Additionally, KiTA also maintains an extensive network involving the various village leaders and villagers to keep safety and security in the area.
When you visit the Kinabatangan, you will be in an area where operators, security departments and local inhabitants are cohesive in efforts to make your stay safe and secure.
I hope the above explanation has helped to address concerns about your visit.
