I booked 3 nights over New Year. Advertised as “barefoot luxury” and a “sanctuary” i was excited when i browse through the website and saw the ad at Samui airport. Even yesterday when i arrived and saw the place, it’s beautiful. It has a nice peaceful vibes. I booked Haadtien Villa, on the far side of the resort because i need some quiet time, directly via the resort facebook page. - first impression, the room was nice, but there’s a tiny black dots all over all four pillows (looks like charcoal smudges) the room was a bit rundown, but nothing major. the was basin was “nicely design” but not practical. - went to dinner at the only restaurant. the food was meh at best, the price was understandable being in a “luxury” hotel with private beach. a waitstaff came over to sell a “NY buffet tickets” for tonight. they have a live bands, which was nice for the restaurant, but when i walk back to my room (which is on the opposite side of the resort) i can still hear them. so instead of chilling out on the patio seats (one of the reason i chose this room type) i have to get back into the room after i finish room service. - now let’s get to today where all the fun begin. first, breakfast was a buffet line, yes, during a second COVID peak. before dinner last night i asked the front office to book a “land tour” for me, this include a hike up hill (i even ask if i need a hiking shoes) the tour pick me up and i realized the rest of the bus was in their diving clothes!! i went to the pier to hitch a ride back with the hotel truck. and waited for the “newly check in crews” to calm down before going to solve the issue with the front office - then i overhear from the other guests that the Dinner Buffet is the only food option, no a la carte nor room service will be operate tonight. so basically you forced every one to pay 1,500 THB to join a buffet party during COVID? (not to mention, it’s PARTY that will last until at least midnight, that they never inform of such event happening, not even at check-in and i only know about the party when they try to sell me tickets” - after some discussion, they are willing to “make exception” for me and had the chef made room service order for me, only if i tell them in advance of what menu i want and what time i want them, giving me the “the chef is very busy with this evening’s event but he’s kind enough to make food for me if i ask nicely” vibes - asking to move to other hotels, or even leave the island is not possible, since it’s NY and every where else is full. I have no choice but stay, with zero compensation for lost time and peace of mind (except for the “special”room service “service”) - all the staffs called me by my room number “miss 503” in every conversation instead of actually learning my name. - highlight of the day, it’s now 14:57, and my room has not been made, despite hanging “please make up room” sign at the patio since i left the room at 8:30 this morning. the food plate from last night is still here and the ants and local birds are enjoy the best NY buffet of their lives!! all this happen in less than 24 hours that i am here. let’s see what awaits. STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED and i regrets coming here

The resort is located on a secluded private beach, which was beautiful and peaceful and offered great snorkeling. This is one of the main pluses of this resort. Haadtien’s staff was amazing and always very happy to help. We liked the spa a lot and enjoyed several treatments. Also, the dive shop, Reef Dive Centre, was well managed and professional. We did several fun dives with them and we very happy with the boat, safety, the choice of dive sites and our dive guide. The boat was spacious, comfortable and sturdy and we were the only divers at that time, which was great. The cottages are a bit tired and could use some upgrading, especially for the price which we found a bit too high compared to the standard offered. As we booked directly through the website, they promised a free upgrade. When we checked in, we asked about the upgrade, they offered to upgrade us for additional fee and the offered cottage looked less appealing than the one we originally booked. Also, breakfast choice was very limited. Perhaps it was because the resort just reopened after the Covid lockdown. However, the resort seemed full to us. As I have gluten intolerance, and most of breakfast offered at the time was heavy on wheet-based bread and danishes, we decided to order breakfast from a nearby cafe offering healthy and delicious smoothie bowls and other treats. We appreciated that breakfast charge was deducted by Haadtien upon checking out from our final payment. We would recommend that the resort includes more gluten free and vegetarian dishes in their menus. We loved snorkeling in the resort’s bay, which is filled with coral and fish and saw a few blacktip reef sharks. All in all the stay was pleasant, services were great, and the beach, scuba diving and spa were wonderful.

We rented the simplest bungalow and though at first it didn't seem very spacious, we ended up having enough room for everything. There were no mosquitoes as it appeared the room had been recently sprayed, but ants in the bathroom made it into the bedroom, but that's to be expected when so close to nature. The main pool was large and beautifully located. Breakfast was OK, though the coffee and bread were of poor quality, however there was an egg station and very friendly staff. The best feature was the beach, where baby sharks were present in the early mornings, and you can step into the water and see incredible fishes right away. We also saw a turtle in the bay. You can hire a boat to take you to other snorkelling/diving spots from the beach. The resort was very peaceful overall, though it is reached by steep roads so not very accessible for unfit people. We took the free shuttle into town most evenings to eat at the port. The resort loses one star due to lack of flexibility on pricing: our ferry was cancelled and we had to spend two extra days on the island, but the hotel management refused to offer a reasonable price, so we moved to a far cheaper, and in some ways more comfortable, hotel in the port for these nights.

Staff as expected can't do enough for you. Pictures say almost everything but my only negative point is the pool is chlorinated by salt not freshwater and for me is too warm . would love a cooler pool to refresh you from the beautiful sun

We came across this beautiful resort by chance while exploring Koh Tao. Even as outside guests, the staff here were very attentive and looked after us (special shout out to Htay for being so friendly). The resort itself is perfect, the beach is silky soft sand with crystal clear water and we relaxed by the sea with some delicious cocktails and food (try the special cocktails, the castaway was amazing). Thanks again to everyone here, despite only spending a lazy afternoon it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a slice of paradise in Thailand.
