Our annual trip was cut short this year as the UK government advised tourists to return home. We still managed to get a weeks break at a Rung Arun which was wonderful as always. Everyone at a Rung Arun was doing their best with the covid situation and taking every precaution to ensure guests safety. They refunded our unused nights before we left and even drove us to the port to catch our ferry home. We were so sorry to have to leave early, and will definitely be back at Rung Arun as soon as possible.

Our 6th year at Rung Arun. We had an amazing time as always. The beach is perfect for lounging on and is raked clean every day. The small team of staff are lovely and work really hard to please guests. Had a great nights sleep every night. There’s plenty of bars and restaurants within a short walk but far enough to not intrude on the peace. They have a small selection of western and Thai food, and a drinks fridge with very reasonable prices. Laundry prices are really cheap and charge by the Kg, dropped off at breakfast it was always back on our porch by late afternoon, beautifully folded. They will arrange very cheap car hire and ferry trips if required. It’s all absolutely perfect for us when we need a chilled out holiday. We’ve already booked for next year.

We booked the Seaview cottage for 2 nights. The resort is in a good location, but a little remote for bars, shops. Big C supermarket is nearby. The cottage was a bit back from the beach but had clear view of the beach between 2 other cottages. Wifi is inconsistent. The manager was friendly. The cottage was cleaned, but had a lot of dust on mirrors, curtain pole. What let it down was the standard of the accommodation. It had a mixture of furniture, which looked like it had come from other eras of age. The cottage needs a serious update. We wouldn't had minded if it had been cheap, but it wasn't. Shame, as it couldn't have been nice.

Located on the best (widest and cleanest) section of Ban Tai Beach is this absolute gem! Unlike other properties in Ban Tai which typically cater for the low budget travellers Rung Arung stands out in a different league with well maintained accommodation set in incredibly well kept grounds. Run by a husband and wife and with a superfriendly team of staff the hospitality is genuine and warm. The grounds and beach are continually swept and cleared of stray plants and flotsam and the rooms are discretely cleaned daily. The beach front here is by far the best section in the area. The accommodations are intentionally built to allow for a wide sandy area unlike most of the other properties which have built up to the high tide mark leaving no beach for their residents. The pool is small and clean but the sea is a few steps away with a sandy bottom and calm seas. Plenty of food available on site and on the main road outside of the resort. This place differs from most resorts in that the prices for massages and food onsite are the same as outside on the main road. For watersports, just next to the resort to the right is Breeze surf club where you can rent equipment for SUP, Kayak, Windsurfing or Kiteboarding. We took lessons with this outfit for kitesurf and they were super enthusiastic and committed instructors. We've stayed in other resorts on Ban Tai and this is now our 1st choice for our next trip.

we only stayed for one night as a stepping stone really between samui and tao. The local guy was pretty friendly who i assumed was owner he gave us key and left us alone. we enjoyed short time on beach which was practically deserted and tide was right out so i walked out to reef which seemed to take forever... they weren't doing food and i assume it was low season as we were only ones staying there i think, so had pool all to ourselves too which was great .! it wasn't bad , rooms are basic tho, a real throwback to 70s with the retro tv (which did work) , and furniture ,and the powder blue bathroom suite.. and the owner kindly dropped us nxt day at pier in his pick up which was nice . all in all it was short but sweet and you get what u pay for which was good value for money.

We stayed with our eight months old daughter in an apartment close to the Rung Arun Resort when we arrived to the island and were just walking by one day, looking for other hotels at the beach. We moved to Rung Arun and had a nice beach bungalow, which we liked a lot. We even extended our stay twice. The hotel staff is really friendly and helpful, no matter what we needed. They were so cute with our babygirl, organized a car rental, booked our ferry tickets, took us to the pier... The bungalows might not be completely new and so are the sheets, but we definitely got more than we expected for the small amount of money we had to pay for a place that’s right at the beach! Another argument for us to stay at Rung Arun was, that there is a kiteschool right next to it.

This was our fifth year staying at Rung Arun. Each year we have stayed a little longer; 25 nights this year. It’s like coming home for us, we get the usual warm welcome from all- including the cats and dogs of course! We see the same faces staying year after year and the same staff who have become friends. As others have said the beach is great, the best stretch on the area in my opinion, and theres plenty of places to eat and drink nearby as well as their own fresh cooked food. Don’t miss having a great massage from the lady right on the beachfront. Already counting the days til our next stay!

I was made very welcome and given a free upgrade to a better room. The room was very clean and well equipped with a TV, fridge, air-con, hot shower, Wi-Fi and a large comfortable bed. The room was serviced daily with clean fresh towels. The shower itself was a little erratic and difficult to keep at a constant temperature - it was also positioned low down on the wall. The beach was beautiful and quiet with lots of shade under the trees. It was cleaned daily - even the seaweed and the leaves were swept up! The pool was clean and refreshing with a children's area but there were no umbrellas to provide shade. In the restaurant the food was good, well cooked and plentiful. Breakfasts were excellent with good coffee. A great place to stay on the beach for those who want peace and quiet with beautiful gardens to relax in.

I don't know where to start but put it this way, this hotel is the only reason I have joined Trip Advisor to allow me to warn other people to avoid this place. We arrived here for just two nights for the full moon party and was on a budget so we expected a very basic hotel but luckily we are not fussy. Unfortunately Basic is a massive understatement and we arrived to a shed door as a front door with a broken padlock as the lock so we immediately felt unsafe as the door could not be locked and had enormous holes in so anything or anyone could get in. We went inside and sat down on the rock hard bed that had yellow stained sheets, filthy towels and smelled horrendous. The toilet flush and the air conditioning was broken and with that we decided the place was literally unbearable, dirty and unsafe. So within an hour of checking in we decided to check out. we understood we would probably lose the first nights stay we paid unless the hotel would refund us as a goodwill gesture refund us since we were there less than an hour which we thought would be fair. However not only did they keep all of our money from the first night they also refused to give us any money back at all for the whole stay. I argued with them for which felt like forever but they flatly refused to refund us anything and I was powerless to do anything about it as the hotel is ran by one man so there is no complaints procedure. We reluctantly left feeling robbed but decided to move hotels and enjoy the rest of our holiday and thought no more of it. However it got worse upon our arrival home as we got an email from booking.com stating that Rung Arun have informed them that we were a "no show" and therefore owed them money so not only did they rob us once they were trying to do it again. Luckily we had the sense to pay on credit card instead of cash like the man requested so we could prove we had paid or we would have been made to pay again. We raised the issue with booking.com but they proved to be useless and accepted no responsibility and said it was a dispute with the hotel so we have still received no money back from this conman. Please do yourself a favour and avoid this place at all costs!!
