The Tamara Kodai hotel is lauded for its cleanliness, with guests highlighting the spotless environment and the diligent cleaning staff. Set in a prime location that offers tranquility and convenient access to nearby attractions, the hotel provides an inviting and serene atmosphere.
While most travelers commend the hotel's amenities and the cordial service of the staff, some feel that the value proposition is inconsistent, citing the need for updates in certain areas and more responsive service. The comfortable rooms are appreciated, although suggestions for better heating and refurbishment have been noted.

Kodaikanal is primarily wet and cool just like Ooty. The beautiful lake at the city center is sprawling wide and hosts several paddle boats moving on its surface. As you look around, you can see some beautiful hill peaks with eye-catching properties. Amidst one of these hills, you can find a lush green cottage property called The Tamara.
It was in the afternoon around 2 pm that we reached the property. Silent, serene, secluded, and picturesque, whatever I say in complement may just be less. It was a mesmerizing property, and we were greeted by some warm smiles and cold refreshing welcome drinks. We were soon escorted on a buggy (e-kart) to our cottage, which was a fancy Suite with a fridge, living area, a large balcony, an excellent bathroom, and a fantastic bedroom. The furniture and the décor were all in wood and inferred with 18th-century luxury design.
Everything was well organized and looked handpicked, be it the décor of the cottage, the sofas in the living, the bed, or the chairs on the balcony.
The property has a play section that includes TT and Pool table, it also has an area for teenagers to enjoy video games. They have a shop where you can buy a few local and antique stuff with 2 restaurants serving multi-cuisine. We had taken all meal plans hence we enjoyed the unlimited buffet during all 3 meals. The food was mostly good all the time. It has a beautiful swimming pool which is temperature control (someone told me that "only Tamara" has a temp control swimming pool in Kodaikanal, this needs to be authenticated).

We very much enjoyed our stay, though there were a few downsides.
Pros: Rooms are spacious and luxurious. Food is excellent and restaurant staff including the chef make a real effort to cater to guest preferences. Staff in the restaurant are very professional and different from the rest of the property (see below). Location is also pretty good because it's just outside Kodaikanal town and its crowds (though you do hear vehicles honking their horns from the road in front).
Cons: There is a strange thing happening in the lobby and recreation area. The staff (all men) are always hanging around and using the recreation facilities. The pool table and ping pong table are always occupied by groups of men who work for the hotel and seem to have nothing else to do. They willingly move if you ask but it's not nice to have to ask (especially if you're a woman) and it creates a weird atmosphere as they kind of crowd around and occupy space. They also regularly use the conference space to play movies for the staff at full volume and this echoes through the property.
Staff are also very solicitous, fishing for tips, especially around checkout time. The cleaning man followed me around asking questions about my stay and clearly hoping for a tip. He even followed me into the lavatory! I suggest to the management to institute a central tipping service like most similar resorts.
Overall, the raw material for an amazing property is there, but some work is required on staff training.

Been to Kodai so many times it’s like your back of your palm.Usual stay is Carlton because of its unbeatable location advantage.
We were looking for something refreshing different rather than better.
Got a good tip from one my friend who recently visited this place. One of most enjoyable drives you will have to reach Kodai.
Around 3km from the lake is this old chapel ( heritage site) converted resort.
Beautiful is the word to describe from the entry.
Classy vintage style reception, care taken to utmost precaution for this pandemic season right from sanitizing your care tyres at the entry.
Front off manager Mr.Kaleeswaran was so polite & warm.
Though we were late for lunch F&B manager Mr.Bala made sure we were served lunch in chapel restaurant even though it’s closed for lunch.Bala was so courteous with his asst pari, sabina & other waiters.
Our rooms were so clean & refreshing with a large sofa room, lovely bedroom with a sit out of the lake view.
Thanks to Sadasivam house keeping in charge.
Dinner was A la carte since buffet is banned due to pandemic.
Great to have met chef Prince, wonderful person then comes his culinary skills which is mind boggling.
Both dinner & breakfast which is part of the package chef prince kept us flabbergasted with his variety from italian to South Indian.Infact we had to skip lunch because of his mouth watering recipes overfilled our tummies.
Icing was the courtesy call by GM Ghosh on a Sunday to enquire about our stay.
Ravi the karaoke incharge was a real entertainer.
Overall a happy satisfied weekend sojourn.

Stayed here in October for 3 days.
The hotel is beautiful. The staff is amazingly polite and helpful.
Priya, Romika, Vidya, Somu, Shabina and all other staff made our stay very comfortable.
Rooms are great.
Great open spaces and fire place is restaurant is something you cannot miss.
Gave 3 stars because for a premium place this lacks on a lot of things.
Bathroom toiletries are basic.
Food needs a lot of improvement.
Breakfast is not worth at all.
No complimentaries even after paying 12k a night.
Room service expects tip in favour of room cleaning and keep ringing bells even after Do not distrub is set.
There are no open views from the room. Either covered with trees or visible from the small lanes between cottages.
Covid precautions are taken but lot of improvement required here as well. Guest keep roaming without masks at public places. Restaurant tables are sanitised only when asked.
Points to remember: At the restaurant including service taxes and government taxes, food will be almost 20% taxable on listing amount.

Unlock 4.0 gave some relaxation and we booked this resort after getting epass through state govt. Moment when we stepped in, the safety protocols are strictly followed right from the entry gate. All the staffs are so polite and helpful in every needs. Resort & Rooms are very neat and sanitized properly by their house keeping team which makes you feel safe from Covid-19.
Now coming to stay, it was pleasant and peaceful throughout two days. Very spacious rooms with all amenities and able to do my office works uninterruptedly. Thanks to their decent network connectivity by connecting most parts of the resort.
Kaleeswaran from front desk was very helpful throughout the stay. He took us around and narrated their interesting history of this property. Priya & Reena took care of our check-in and other assistance now and then.
Next is food. One of the finest master chef available with them who could make almost anything we need. Bistro and La Providence, both their restaurants are located in the rich heritage building. Only ala carte is available these days due to the pandemic.
Resort is socially responsible and environment friendly where they have: huge storage of rain water (approx. 3 lakhs litres), oil heater for room, tress are protected from cutting even when they block the views.
Last but not least, they have wide range of activities. Archery and trekking are the two things which we tried. Tried out the Rainbow trek which is for beginners and they also have challenging treks. We were mesmerized with the real beauty of kodai through this trek and one must try out definitely if you are here. A different experience from the regular sight seeing which is good for your health too.
Ravi, A Veteran Trek and Yuvan who guided us through the forest are well knowledged about the forest. They showed us the beautiful views, flora & fauna and wonderful falls inside the dense forest.
Kudos to Tamara Team for their wonderful hospitality.

Tamara Kodai is a perfect getaway for travellers seeking a cutoff from their busy schedules. The location is a bit far from the Kodai town and the calmness of nature can be enjoyed to the fullest within a well maintained property.
Starting from the reservation experience, it was seamless with the support of Priyanka Budholiya and Prabu Charles. I could close the deal in quick time with Priyanka working out the best rates for me and prompt response from her affirmed that I book directly than through any travel portals.
The buildings project mediaeval architecture and the luxury cottages are spacious with a living room, bedroom, balcony and a majestic bathroom. The cottage provides all the facilities that one can generally expect for a luxury stay. E-buggy vehicles are available if the cottage is located far from the reception building. Pathways are well maintained with a wide variety of flora on the sides. The only con that I felt for the rooms is that it lacked proper sound insulation. Movements in the cottage above could be heard while sitting in my room.
The pool is a heated one perfect for the kodai weather and it is maintained decently. The common area had indoor activities, fireplace, karaoke to keep the travelers in groups engaged.
I used the Spa service and did really like the Abhayanga treatment and the Swedan. Akhil was great with his service. My wife also had the Abhayanga treatment and her experience was as well likewise with the service provided by Reshma.
The restaurant looks pleasing however small with a limited number of tables though there is ample space outside the restaurant. With the kid it was not possible to use the tables in the open area due to the cold weather and rain. Food was excellent and had a wide spread on all the days. I did like the running train on the top of the restaurant as well. The staff at the restaurant are doing their very best however I felt the restaurant is understaffed.
I should mention Jina at the restaurant, the way she engaged my kid and her pleasing service does deserve applause. She was very caring and did provide some cookies and cakes as takeaways for the kid while we checked out so he could have it on the way.
Overall a great experience and looking forward to visiting the property again in future.

Tamara is easily one of the best resorts I have stayed in ever. The wonderfully kept resort which is pleasant to have a walk through contains beautiful flowers and vegetables in their gardens. Each room has a living room and a bedroom with a balcony that is perfect for a little sunshine with morning coffee.
The restaurant is by far the best in Kodai and the food is as good as it can get. The menu has variety and the chefs provide a great culinary experience of not just South Indian but North Indian and Continental. The presentation equals their 5 star status.
Last but not the least, having travelled to many countries across the world, the STAFF are the best, I repeat the best, I have witnessed. They took special care and remembered what we like and very courteous. This extends to every single staff member at the Tamara leaving us floored. Special mention to Vidhya who was so gracious and friendly that we would visit the resort again just to say hi to her.
Overall, if you are planning a stay in Kodai- this got to be the place!

Visited the property in December 2021 with friends and family.
The Tamara team handled reservations and all pre-arrival queries in a timely fashion before arrival. I must mention the highly efficient Ajitha on the Reservation team for all her help.
Airport transfer from Madurai and check-in was smooth and painless. The staff are all very well trained, friendly and efficient.
The property is large and gorgeous. There is a large central building (partly old heritage structure) and the rooms are in surrounding buildings on the property. Golf carts are available for internal room transfer…which is good as it can be quite a trek to some of the rooms.
We had a Luxury Suite and it was spacious with a separate living area. There was also an outdoor terrace with partial views towards the nearby hills. The decor is a bit period, with some older designed pieces. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and we enjoyed good sleep. The bathroom is modern and spacious, although I would’ve preferred slightly higher water pressure. Also, just to note, I don’t believe there is too much difference in terms of size or furnishings between the regular and the luxury suite, maybe slight view difference and some inclusions on activities.
The staff at the restaurant were very friendly, and they made several special requests for different less spicy food for some members in our party, which was appreciated. The spread overall was varied and of good quality. I had some concerns on hygiene mainly due to Covid, but nothing egregious.
There are several game areas and the kids enjoyed playing snooker, snakes and ladders, also playing the piano in the lobby. They also enjoyed the temperature controlled pool, which was a must given the cool ambient temperature.
I also used the spa and my therapist (Febin) was very professional and the treatment was very enjoyable.
Overall a very pleasant experience, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. One star cut for the poor HVAC system in the room (we were all perennially cold in the night, as the heater is too small for the room..would’ve expected better), and also for the high pricing which makes for low VFM.

We are so much in love with Tamara Kodai. Their age old buildings, colonial styled cottages and the lush green environment is so mesmerizing. The hospitality is like the cherry on top, beyond words. We thank the entire Tamara Team for providing such a beautiful experience.
I would like to extend special appreciations to Ms.Priya who gave a warm welcome, helped us with the check in process. Mr.John and Mr.Solomon for the property tour and buggy assistance.
The food was a delight to the tastebuds, Mr.Prince the chef takes special care of his guests and all orders can be customized as per our taste. Ms.Sabina guided us to our tables. A very very special mention and thanks to Ms. Vidya our waitress, who made our dining experience very comfortable and enjoyable. We were a bit late for breakfast during checkout although the kitchen was closed, they some how managed to put up a delicious spread for us, they didn't let us go hungry. Thank you guys for that 😍.
Thank you Ms.Anjali for tidying our rooms everyday and for the beautiful towel art (it as sweet surprise). And of course thank you security guards for being of service around the clock!
The entire premises are sanitised, they strictly follow the protocols making this place the best option for stay during this pandemic.
We are completely satisfied for choosing Tamara kodai for our vacation! We love you guys and will be back for more!

Tamara has impressed us all with the most luxurious decor , service ,excellent food, hospitality and the amazing views. One of the best resort experiences ever, the biggest shout out to the chefs that cooked up a great feast for the New Year.It would not have been this special without the staff who were always on the feet and made us feel at home with their care and love. The activities organized by Mr.Ravi made all the difference with his deep insightful knowledge of Kodai, the delectable coffee making by Ms Sabina and Ms Vidya .Mr Vasanth from housekeeping who kept our rooms squeaky clean and well sanitized. In the face of Covid the precautions taken have been most adequate and kept us all safe. Its a must try for all !
