We stayed three nights at Iora in October 2018. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and I am full of praise. It was comfortable, clean, and well maintained. It is conveniently situated for the bird sanctuary. The food was of a high quality and everyone was efficient, friendly and helpful.

My wife and I arrived in Bharatpur by train from Delhi and were met by the usual multitude of tuk-tuk drivers all vying for our trade. Taking the first in line we were whisked off, weaving through the colourful, hectic streets to the Iora Guesthouse. And what a delight it was! Set on a quiet side street away from the noise of the roads, the Iora is the perfect place to relax after the hustle and bustle of Delhi. Devendra is such a welcoming host, and well versed on everything that you need to know about the nearby Keoladeo National Park. A talented photographer and natural historian (who has worked in such notable locations as Corbett National Park), Devendra directed us to the best places in the park to find the bird and mammal species that we wanted to see. Even when we were

A great stay from start to finish. Don’t let the approach road put you off. The Guesthouse is instantly recognisable as it is festooned in flowers and plants, showing care and attention, a hallmark of our stay. The rooms are simply furnished but spotless and the bathroom/wet room modern providing a refreshing shower as you control the hot water. A/C is provided, but the fan is more than adequate. The simple food menu is freshly prepared on the premises and is worth the wait, as they even had to send out to the local market on one occasion. Everything in the dining room come check-in area was spotless. But if that wasn’t enough the proprietor, Devendra Singh was helpfulness personified, nothing was too much trouble. He arranged our trip to the local bird reserve, assisted with a

Our stay at the Iora Guest House was simply lovely from start to finish. We arrived after a day long trip from Varanasi, and were welcomed into a ground floor room with two singles, with good bathroom facilities (we had both hot water and loo roll) and a strong fan. Despite the late hour, the chef cooked us supper. The following morning, the owner’s brother booked us train tickets for the next two legs of our journey at no commission. He also gave us advice on bus stops and trains. The owner himself was equally lovely, informing us about the nearby wildlife sanctuary (we rented bikes to cycle through it for the day), giving us advice on navigating Bharatpur and being generally amenable to all of our needs. The owner’s wife, in the absence of the chef, even cooked our supper!

Large simple rooms, very clean, very nice meals, very good advices, helpful staff: I enjoyed it so much that I decided to forget my stay in Agra and visited Taj Mahal from here ! There is much more to do in the area than visit the park (which is anyway a must do) ! Devandra Singh is very wellcoming, has extremely good advices on what to do and visit and how to visit the park: he is a keen naturalist, a good photographer and very helpful.
