Best ever experience, peace of mind, harmony at this wonderful stay we had, enjoyed the homemade food with all local spices it had, breakfast was morning filling, and the best was Mr. joe and his family hospitality, gesture and Homestay experience was a bliss. Don’t miss the pizza baked over wood fire. Our second time visit will be this place always and it will be here only. Thanks to all at mistletoe and hosting us this wonderful experience staying here
Waking up to the picturesque collage of 2 mystical as well as mistycal mountains with Tea gardens adorning them and then being greeted by Ms. Bulbul, the winner of Nature’s got Talent were the exquisite pleasures that we were blessed with due our length of stay in Mistletoe. Mistletoe is located strategically in Irrutukanam, the gateway to Munnar. Mistletoe embraced us when we were hopelessly looking for a place to stay after feeling duped by the positive reviews, good ratings and make believe photos of some Homestays on booking.com which promised spectacular views of spice garden/ tea gardens in Munnar. The reality was quite disappointing we were left high and dry. Located strategically on the National Highway in Irrutukanam the place is easily accessible via all kinds of transport. Nestled in the lap of plantations amidst 50 shades of green, Mistletoe is more than a place to stay in Munnar- it is a holistic experience. The place beams with care, warmth, hospitality, professionalism and all feelings in between. The place is run by Joe and his family who would take you under their aegis while you stay at Mistletoe. The connect and the warmth the family and the place exudes is unparalleled. All the decor has a story to tell and every side and nook of the place is thoughtfully designed. Food here is lip smacking and could be customised per you taste buds. The place scores high points for cleanliness and hygiene. Joe is ‘awoke’ and an environmentally conscious being. He grows quite a lot of greens in his own Poly house and quite a few fruits and veggies like Avocados, mangoes, tomatoes moringa, jack fruit etc are sourced from his own backyard. We were so happy to learn that the place uses environmentally safe cleaning agents that are home made. Waste segregation, recycling and decomposition, solar power, bio gas plant, water harvesting, treatment and other practices make the place partially self sustainable. Plastic here is NOT a necessary evil, You will not find plastic bottles or other daily use plastic items at Mistletoe. The place is run by the family, without any external help like a well oiled machinery. During our 10 day stay here, we imbibed many best practices and were enriched in many ways. We came here as strangers and left Mistletoe as more than acquaintances. In my experience Mistletoe provides the best immersion on how to disconnect with chaos recharge and rejuvenate in realest and truest sense.…
We stopped at Mistletoe as part of a wider tour to Munnar and had a lovely, fresh lunch overlooking the hills at Joe’s restaurant which has wide ranging views of the hills and mountains of Munnar. It is surrounded by greenery and lots of plants. All of Joe’s fruit and vegetables are grown organically on the estate and are delicious - his salad (with homegrown avocados) is particularly good. Joe took us on a tour of the surrounding plantations, pointing out and explaining all the spices, fruits and vegetables growing there with plenty of opportunity to taste and smell them. It is amazing how many are growing on his land alone - cardamom, cinnamon, pineapple, black peppercorn, mulberry - and we loved to see them. We would recommend everyone travelling to Munnar to stop at Joe’s place to taste his amazing fresh produce and to tour the plantation.…
Stayed for 4 nights at Mistletoe. The host's friendly family welcomed us. The food was delicious. The breakfast was different on each of the days. The choice of food for lunch and dinner was good. We wanted to try the local delicacies and each one of them turned out good. Joe even accommodated a last minute request for lunch as we were late and couldn't find a restaurant nearby. The view from the balcony was breathtaking and it was different at different times. Overall, the stay was awesome and this place is highly recommended.
Set in an idyllic location, Mistletoe Homestay is located away from the madding crowd and yet offers easy access to the main attractions in Munnar. Joe and family took care of even the minutest detail during our stay. We stayed here for a week and can't wait to go back again! Don't think twice, this place is a must visit! thanks, A & M
We visited Munnar in last week of February. Mistletoe was our first experience of staying in a homestay.. and what an experience it was! We stayed in the family room, which had an amazing hill view from the balcony. The room and the bathroom were spacious and clean with all necessary comforts provided.. the warm hospitality provided by Mr. Johnson and family is unforgettable. The delicious food prepared by his mother and wife were lip smacking. We got to taste some of the finest kerela cuisine that you would never taste in a professional hotel. The ingredients were mostly sourced from his garden. The homestay is surrounded by lush greenery which is filled with chirping of birds. This was a memorable stay which has been etched in our mind.
Recently my family and I had a chance to stay at Mistletoe homestay. That was our first experience at a homestay and it was a memorable one, I would say. The one that amazed us was how genuinely warm and friendly the family that runs this homestay was. The place was very calm and the food was homely. Our rooms had a great view and were very neat and spacious. Another thing that attracted us was the aroma of wonderful cakes that wafts through the air of their premises. We got to dig into one of those cakes the next day, which also happened to be Christmas Eve. Thank you Mistletoe for a very happy and pleasant stay.
This is by far the best place where I have stayed in a hotel/homestay in Kerala. This homestay is in an ideal location whether you want to visit munnar or other offbeat places near Munnar. The place is easily accessible being next to NH. Johnson uncle is very friendly and genuine and can work out on your itinerary very efficiently. The food was delicious. The balcony view is breathtaking. Overall, the experience was beyond words.
As a traveller, I have been to many places in India and abroad, can very well say that our stay in Mistletoe has been one of THE BEST till date. Please note this is a Homestay and not a hotel, incase the expectation is of regular room service !!! This is a beautiful place, carefully crafted by Mr.Joe and his family. Each nook and corner reflects the affection with which he has made this peace abode. The family stays in the same premises. I travelled with my spouse and 2 young child and the intent of selection was safety and hygiene in these Covid times. Mistletoe matched all the parameters and more. The rooms were spic and span and ofcourse Mr.Joe was kind and considerate enough to provide us a room with an arrangement where both my kids could attend their online classes separately. The view from the balcony was outstanding and on a full moon night all the more mesmerising. You get hot water 24*7 and it’s a luxury specially in hills. Having stayed and Marriot, Hyaat and the likes can easily say that the toiletries were the best, if not better. It was almost a sunkissed washroom where the Sun rays directly fall on you from East while you immerse urself In tepid shower. The meals…what to say, FRESH, YUMMY and delicately arranged…The fruit platter was chilled with red grapes resemble soaked in morning mist. You get best of Kerala menu like Idiyappam, Ishtew, Appam, Kadala curry, Kerala parota, chicken and beef on request, not to mention veg delicacies. His family was kind enough to fire the wood oven to prepare fresh pizza which were to die for !!! The quantity is sufficient and you can take additional helping. The icing on the cake are the desserts prepared by Mr. Joe himself. They were no less than exotic specially the dessert post lunch on our last day meal at Munnar. Crispy pancake filled with cashew and apple soaked in juice of orange syrup and brandy…ONE OF THE BEST DESSERT ever had. His family takes active part in management of the Homestay, specially the elder son Nirmal who was kind enough to take us on trekking. His knowledge on plants and herbs is amazing. If you are ever visiting Munnar…Mistletoe is the place to stay…sit back, soak the view, enjoy hearty meals and relax…What more can you ask in a holiday…BIG THANK YOU MR.JOE & YOUR FAMILY…!!!…
ONE WEEK IN THE HEAVEN! Working from home for more than a year now, had taken a toll on work-life balance, and this break was exactly what we needed. Being able to work in peace, enjoy top quality healthy food and finally have time to visit some beautiful places. Joe and his family were amazing hosts. The entire show is run by the family members. Wi-Fi was good; breathtaking view from the balcony; fresh fruits & vegetables were served from own farm; Open pantry for those who want a mid-day coffee/tea to enjoy with cookies. Everything right from the tissue holder on cafe tables to the bathroom cabinet has an artistic touch to it. We even invited our family members (who happened to be in town) for a dinner there and they can't stop talking about the place. Being the chocolate lovers that we are, we ordered their organic hot chocolate, made from fresh cocoa, almost everyday and were surprised on our last day with a pack of roasted cocoa along with the vegetable seeds from their farm that we had requested for.. …
