Mistletoe Munnar is a boutique, premium home stay having five well furnished rooms with private balcony; overlooking the magnificent Chokkanmudi peaks, Lakchmi hills and Kanan Devan plantations of Munnar. This home stay features a traditional clay oven bakery, a cute cafe, small library and plenty of warmth and care from a typical Kerala Syrian Christian family. Mistletoe Munnar is situated at Iruttukanam, on Kochi – Dhanushkodi, NH 49. The driving distance to Munnar via NH is only 16 kms and via Anachal By pass is 14 kms only. It is located between Munnar and Adimaly, ideally at the gateway junction to the Kanan Devan hills of Munnar. Cochin International Airport is only 95 kms away from Mistletoe at a driving duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The nearest town is Adimaly, the famous hub for spice trading in Idukki district, and it offers all health care and emergency services. The concept of Mistletoe Munnar has been germinated through several years of passionate desire to offer a value for money real hospitality experience to discerning travelers both international and domestic. The name Mistletoe Munnar has a lot of significance. Mistletoe as a herb, flower has epical attributes in Greek and European mythology and culture. Mistletoe has been attributed as good omen for love, romance, warm family life and relationships, prosperity from time immemorial especially in the medieval European era. Here in our context, every room in the house has a spacious balcony that faces the Lakchmi and Chokkanmudi peaks of the Kanan Devan Hills. One can visualize and be part of the unending romance between the ever relaxing Lakchmi on semi laying position on the north and the Chokkan Mudi peaks with all his magnificence at her footsteps on east, appreciating her natural curves and lush greenery, silvery streaks of water falls on her large bosom. The traditional bake oven & cafe is also the main and characteristic place in the home stay, where baking has been a family business for years. Here one could taste freshly made breads, cakes, cookies and experience baking by learning the basic steps of traditional baking – where the fuel has been always firewood or similar natural fuels like coconut shell, etc. The guests would have a privileged feeling of staying with a baker’s family and enjoying their simplicity of life and hospitality. Local attractions and in-house activities: Apart from the popular hot spots and landscapes of Munnar such as Mattupetty, Iravikulam, Tea Museum, etc the following are some of the local attractions close to Mistletoe Munnar: Elephant Camp , having more than a 6 to 8 elephants is only 250 meters from this home stay Spice and Kerala handicraft shop for shopping Chengulam Lake is only 5 kms from where you can experience speed boat, pedal boat riding experience as well as fishing, and it is popular picnic spot for families and couples to spend some quality time. This is also an ideal track for biking Punarjani Kathakali and Martial art centre 2nd mile only 20 minutes driving distance from Mistletoe. This is hot spot for evening entertainment in Munnar The Kallar river that originates from the Lakchmi hills of Munnar and makes its eventful journey to reach the Periyar river, is very near at one kilometer from the Mistletoe. Mangulam the famous agricultural low lands which is also sure place for wild elephant spotting is 20 kms away from Mistletoe – 4 wheel drive jeeps and SUVs are recommended. The Thalamaly and Pettumudi tribal settlement region is also an excellent place to experience a jeep safari, bird watching and local ethnic community culture; this is only 5 kilometers from Mistletoe Munnar. One can also go for a walk in the less commercial Spice plantations owned local farmers nearby either in the morning or evening. Early morning is ideal as there is less traffic on the road. We enjoyed 2 nights, 3 days in the company of Joe and Geena and their family. This is a genuine Indian homestay experience.

My wife and I have stayed at a wide variety of accommodations over 31 years are enjoying Indian culture. The warmth that we experienced from the Mistletoe booking is something we will never forget.

The immaculate presentation of the customised accommodation, expansive views of the surrounding landscape and the exceptional food made this experience excellent value for money.

We have a particular interest in bird watching and for like-minded people this location is a haven.

New Year’s Eve 2020 Joe went all out to create a memorable experience with exquisite foods, fun Indian games and fireworks.

Surely one of Keralas best homestays.

If you’re looking for a warm welcome, comfortable rooms with balconies, fresh cooked meals and a surprise young guide, Mistletoe is a must.

Jo and Jeena are the hospitable hosts of this charming home stay. There are small spaces strewn all around, for guests can hang out, and the outdoors blend with the indoors at Mistletoe.

Mistletoe composts, and grows many vegetables and greens on its grounds.
We were lucky enough to have a pizza night while there - Jo fired up the oven, carrying on the legacy of his baker father, and the thin whole wheat crust with fresh herbs and toppings was super tasty. The meals cooked by Jeena and Jo’s mother are varied and delicious and they graciously accommodate vegan needs.

When you visit, make sure to go on the river walk with Nirmal as your guide, Jo and Jeena’s older son. He knows the path, the trees, the flowers, the shrubs like the back of his hand and leads the way with ease and confidence.

With Jo’s help, we also went on the elephant safari and after a long bumpy ride, were rewarded by the sight of more than a dozen elephants drinking at the stream at the forest’s edge. Jo also coordinated a tea plantation walk as well as a trek for us; I would recommend both. The other resource was transportation to and from Munnar, and again, we appreciated Jo’s help.

The only tip I have is that if you’re visiting in the hottest months, the ground floor rooms would be cooler.

I can’t wait to visit Mistletoe again!

Mistletoe is an opportunity to relax and enjoy home-like food all while being surrounded with beautiful views of nature. The owner, Jo and his family run the homestay and accompanying restaurant. He himself is a kind, and interesting person to talk to. His business is evidently run with a lot of care.

The rooms are nicely decorated and spacious. In the shower, they had beautiful, reusable jars with shampoo, conditioner and locally made soap. A definite highlight is the view of Idukki/Munnar's iconic green hills from each room's balcony.

I ate in their restaurant for every meal while here. Since each meal is made to order, you let them know in advance so it's ready when you are. I enjoyed lots of local dishes many of which were mostly created from products straight from their garden.

I highly recommend staying at Mistletoe Munnar for your next trip up to these breathtaking mountains.

This is by far the best place where I have stayed in a hotel/homestay in Kerala. This homestay is in an ideal location whether you want to visit munnar or other offbeat places near Munnar. The place is easily accessible being next to NH. Johnson uncle is very friendly and genuine and can work out on your itinerary very efficiently. The food was delicious. The balcony view is breathtaking. Overall, the experience was beyond words.

This really is a beautiful place to stay. The rooms are a high standard of comfort and cleanliness, the views are stunning and the original art on display adds another really interesting dimension.
The home cooked food is absolutely delicious and cooked to order , and you can treat yourself to ordering delicious home cooked snacked throughout the day too.
Joe was also so kind to get up early and cook me breakfast before an early morning hike - I really felt the whole team took such care to ensure the guests enjoyed their stay.

It is a beautiful premium property tastefully decorated with knick knacks, lovely paintings and thick flowering plants. The view of the mountains from the room is breathtaking. Food is exceptionally good- fresh, homemade and flavourful. We stayed in a family suite with our family of 4. Mr. Johnson, the owner of the property takes personal interest in ensuring that the customer is satisfied on all grounds. Highly recommended place.

Loved every minute of the stay. Joe and his family are amazing hosts and ensured that we had an amazing experience. Even though we visited during the covid period, the place was super safe and a lot of preventive measures were taken such as frequent sanitization, limited occupany %, guests separation.

My main takeaways:
1. Hospitality, such warm and welcoming family.
2. Food, its amazing. He has an interesting take on all dishes which makes it extraordinary. Tryout the BBQ, pizza especially.
3. Lot of amazing tours. He helped organize treks, elephant safari, river tour which made the trip a lot of fun.

Planning another trip real soon.

Hi! Great Review and helpful recommendations for family travelers! Our entire family is grateful to you for the candied words and pats; you have been not only kind but very observant of all the small things that we take to make our guests happy and comfortable! It is very encouraging! As an extended family with children, it is indeed difficult to make everyone felt accommodated however we are glad that you all had a lovely time with Pizza, BBQ and the activities suggested! THANK YOU and See you soon!

We have stayed in one of the best home stay you will get in Munnar. The view from the balcony is amazing and also the rooms are very neat and clean. Mr. Joe and his family made us feel comfortable throughout the stay and their hospitality is really good. He also suggested some of the places which are good for trekking and also places with great views. The dining room has some classic touches which adds the additional flavor to their home stay. Don't mind the distance since it is perfectly located with a great view which will spark up your mornings.

Hi! Being away from city life is the best thing to happen during holidays... Mistletoe being away from the crowded and cramped Munnar town is preferred by like-minded travelers for a quite stay! Thank you for choosing to stay with us and we feel glad that you had a great time with us! As many of our guests like you had appreciated our artworks, I would like to thank our artist friend Mr. Somu from Aymanam for doing a wonderful job to keep! In fact, he has made many artworks from waste wood pieces and his workshop is a must-see when you are near Kumarakam.

An excellent getaway from the usual rushed city life. Rest, relaxation and a total rejuvenation in an idyllic location overlooking the wooded mountain slopes of the Western Ghats. A quiet, peaceful and soothing setting with all the feel of Munnar but away from the maddening crowd and congestion. Homely tasty food from a family kitchen with a personalized touch in all services rendered. Comfortable rooms and clean bathrooms add to the attraction. Time flies by when relaxing on the balcony, watching the gathering mist in the afternoons and a receding mist in the mornings.

A gorgeous small BNB, tasteful, comfortable rooms, amazing views. Great food, prepared by fresh by Jo and his family. We went on a lovely tea plantation trek organised via one of Jo's contacts. He took us on a lovely tour around his place, showing us all the vegetables he grows, his Avocado tree. Apart from the comfort, Mistletoe composts all its food waste, avoids using plastic, uses solar energy for heating and bio gas for cooking. Will stay much longer when we return!
