I am a person who does my research before travel. As we don't do too many vacations and when one does it- it better be good. We are global traveler’s and do not stay in India (though we are from India). Just mentioning this point, as my reference hence is a global review and not just a comparison within local places to stay Now I was debating this a lot, before travelling- should I stay at the place where I visted 18 years before, when we travelled to Munnar or should we try something new. This was the last leg of our trip to Kerala and I wanted to ensure that we ended our family trip with a bang. We were not interested in sightseeing, but just wanted a place to relax and chill. I hence wanted to book 2 pool villa's for three nights. Unfortunately the same was not available for three nights, hence we decided to stay in the classic room for one night and then pool villa for two nights. This was actually a fantastic decesion, as we experienced the best of both worlds. The jaccuzi in the classic room and the heated pool in the pool villa. Let me start with the postives of Spice tree Munnar Ease of booking- I interacted with Saranya who was really awesome. Totally responsive, whenever I sent her an email and she was extremly friendly and did a lot of research on the availablty of churches and PCR centres. As we stayed over Christmas at Spice tree and had to take the 48 hour PCR before returning back. Saranya was a star and supper support. Rooms- Classic room: When we reached, we were totally wow'ed by the classic room. The house keeping team had placed hibiscus all over the bath room, in such an asthetic manner. It took is sometime to start using the same :). We did not want to spoil the creativity. However we did not waste time and got into the jaccuzi asap. This was super and very relaxing for us after over 5 hours of a road trip. The room was awesome, but the jaccuzi was special!! Pool villa: Now I read a lot of reviews, which talk about classic room being good enough and no need to book pool villa. Man how totally wrong this is!! Spice tree has two pool villa's and we were lucky to use both of them for our family (two grown up kids, elderly mom and us -wife and husband). The rooms were wow!!!! The bath rooms dont have a jaccuzi, but they are huge, its like another room. With a brass tub- I have never seen this anywhere across my travel. The the crown in the jewel- the heated pool. We travelled here during christmas and it was cold weather in Munnar, but the pool nice and warm. The pool is also not just a hole, but a decent size pool. Not deep at all, probably around 3.5 feet or so. With good seating around. We spent huge time in the pool, night and day. In total privacy!! The pool villa also has a living room and a small dining area. Both rooms open into the pool area. This room was a dream. Any couples out there, if the room is available- ensure you book it. I would suggest you take 602, its a little further distant from the dining area. But the views are better. Service: Saranya's service levels continued at Spice tree, with Dhanesh taking over every little need of ours. The front office team, the house keeping team, the kitchen team- all were just brilliant. Dhanesh and team arranged for a cake for our daughter, who had her birthday while we were there. He also arranged for a seperate area for her to connect with her friends online. The best part was that he also arranged for a towel art session with one of the house keeping staff. The guy was just amazing!! He spent an hour with us, teaching the kids (and the rest of us) oragami based towel art. Food- We had breakfast and other meals at the resort. The food is just amazing. Very well prepared. The team which brought to food to the room, did an awesome job always. Recreation area- The resort at two recreation areas, one near the reception and one nead the bakery (yes bakery!!:). We all picked up good books to give us some company and also to pose while in the pool ;) Chef Anil- Now this guy and this concept is unique. Don't don't miss this!! Spice tree has a bakery near the lower recreation area, run by Chef Anil. Who also does tea tasting sessions. What he also does is bake amazing cookies and cup cakes. Which one can have free of cost!! The whole bakery setup is so awesome. He taught my wife to make churos and also shared his recepie for cup cakes. Such a gem of a person and such an amazing concept. Do not miss him and the bakery, if you make it to spice tree. When we checked out, we had requested to pack some breakfast and chef anil remembed what we liked and made a small box filled with the same. These gestures, stays with you for life. House keeping- This team is birlliant. Keeping the room amazingly clean and also prepping the special bath (complimentary for pool villa), with milk, wine, rose and candles. Just a totally amazing job. Property- The property is on the side of a hill. Hence room to dining area is a bit off a walk. Made absolutely pleasureable with the green of hibiscus plants all across. This property has so much to do and explore. We did not do the nature walk or used the spa- as were were busy in the pool and just relaxing. Sorry for this super long review. But this place is worth it. Truly. Few areas of improvement: 1) For emptying the jaccuzi- one needs to call the reception for some reason. This should be in the rooms control. 2) The quality of the bathing soap offered, could be better. For my family, eventually: Spice tree will be our destination of choice, when we travel to Kerala next. 10/10 for the team at Spice Tree…
Nice ambience and best hospitality. Enjoyed the climate and resort location. Need to improve the spa ambiance though. Jacuzzi and other bathing tubs are so fantastic expensive. I would recommend it to my friends for at least single time stay.
One of the best resorts in Munnar. Mesmerizing location, Awesome room : honeymoon spa suite, Amazing customer service, Luscious food.
