Rheinberg is situated at the heart of Munnar. Rheinberg offers you to amazing view of town and mountains. It is the perfect retreat for those who want to spend their vacation away from bustling city in the lap of nature. We have 3 spacious and elegant rooms. One carved out of woods, one has its walls stretched in bamboos and a blue shade room.

PLUSES Views over Munnar. Pretty potted plants and fauna in the small garden area We slept quite well in the bed.
MINUSES Taxis and rickshaws would not use the track which went directly up to the property, with the other vehicular access leaving an 80m (approx.) 'dodgy' path to the property with zero protection from the drop to one side. Trekking up from the town was steep from one side and very steep from the other. Bad leak from shower and tap below, which was filling a large buxket every 3 to 4 hours. The whole room was constantly damp including bed and bedding. Shabby, non-chic furniture and antiquated tv.

The homestay is located in main town which is accessible to main road. But the only problem is it is located in mountain high so need to walk from ground around 200m. Another route having road and nearby car parking but quite distance.
Apart from this, it is a good homestay for couples. The ambience of the stay and garden area, you'll definitely love it. Rooms are pretty clean and decent. Speaking about bathroom is too good with 24x7 hot water. Property owner is so kind and about the caretaker Mr.Kapil is also kind and helpful.

We spent 3 nights at the Rheinberg Home Stay. Located on the hill but near the city center. Small climb to be expected. The rooms are clean. The downside is that we barely had any hot water. As it is cool in the evening and at night the cold shower is not very pleasant. That said, I recommend this address

My girlfriend and me (german, both 28, Backpackers) traveled to Munnar for three days and we tried three different locations. The first ones were ca. 5 km away from the town with an awesome mountain view (tea plants) what makes it quiet expensive (50 $/ 30$). Rheinberg for 1200 Rupies was full that time so we went to Rheinberg the last day. The rooms were same quality maybe cleaner than the other both (sure without the tea plants/mountain view but city view) and we felt way better and more comfortable here! We met the Owner and his employee they were really kind to us thank you very much! There is only one point we were dissapointed. As we came back from breakfast there was a guy we didnt know. Short form: our hosts employee gave uns Information at what time the bus runs to madurai. Be careful with the travel/hiking guide, he tried to hold us and told us there is a bus strike (we looked it up on the internet and called the bus organisation, there was no strike) at that point he tried to go hiking with us. Our hosts employee didnt clear the situation (we dont know why).

Response from RheinbergMunnar, Owner at Rheinberg Homestay
Responded 29 Mar 2015
Thank you for the review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed Rheinberg's Quality, cleanliness, comfort and value for money more.. while compared to other hotels you stayed in Munnar for $ 50/night. Were ours is less than $20/night. And the guide issue, I have inquired all the matter, And sorry for the misunderstanding regarding the guide. On 27.3.2015 there were a strike going on in Tamil Nadu so he told you there might be no transportation from Kerala to Tamilnadu from his knowledge. But few buses were ready for the service which called and confirmed. Its totally a misunderstanding and you take it on the wrong way. Really sorry for the inconvenience.

I stayed at the Rheinberg Homestay at the beginning of April for 2 nights with 4 friends and thought it was fab. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. The location was great for exploring munnar town - just a short, albeit steep, walk away. Jacob (the owner) and Kabhil (the caretaker) were friendly and made us feel very welcome. Always happy to chat with us, answer our questions and provide us with information about the local area. Kabhil arranged a day trip for us with his brother which was enjoyable and when we left to travel to our next location - at 4am - he got up to provide help getting to the car - including a light.

My friend and I were brought here by a rickshaw driver as we were struggling to find a restaurant with WiFi to search places to stay. We expressed that we 100% needed somewhere with WiFi as we needed to organise the next steps of our trip - we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, the garden was lovely and room was clean and spacious. We went out for food before planning to come back and organise our onward travels, however when we came back there was absolutely no one to be found in/around the building. The WiFi we were given had been turned off and another one turned on, with a different password. We walked around everywhere trying to find someone, but there was no one. We even when next door to ask. We had been given no information at all and weren't told the owner would be going out or how to contact anyone in an emergency. We appreciate the only issue we had was with the WiFi, but we specifically expressed that the one thing we needed that evening was WiFi - but it was a little disconcerting that there was no one to be found at all, as what if there was a more serious issue? After a while of searching and hoping someone would return, we left a note on a door to ask the manager to come to our room when they get back - however no one arrived until about 8am the next morning, by which point we were checking out. We explained our issues to the manager but he did not seem to care and did not apologise. He said he had just gone for food, and didn't see the problem when we explained that we didn't know that and hadn't been given any contact info. He got quite angry with us and I had to ask him to let me finish explaining/my sentence. In the end he agreed to reduce our bill by 200rs, down to 1300rs but after ALOT of discussion and he was very very unhappy with it and proceeded to sulk.
It was a shame as the accommodation is quite nice but we thought the customer service was very poor and unprofessional.

Although not easy to find upon arrival, it was quickly solved when we called the manager, and he sent someone to show us the way. Perched above the town centre, its the perfect location. Nice, clean, spacious room, with hot water for shower. We booked a rickshaw tour through the guesthouse, and were very happy: over 6h of visiting of the Munnar valley. The guide gave us lots of interesting insights, and was very helpful in helping us find the best places to buy tea & munnar chocolate.

The homestay was comfortable. Nice, well maintained garden and the morning view was excellent. The homestay was a few mins climb from the town center and hence ideal location for sightseeing trips. The caretaker, Mr. Kapil, was extremely helpful. I highly recomend this homestay to anyone who are happy with modest, clean and spacious budget rooms.

Had wonderful time in Rheinberg. View from the homestay is great in the morning. Located in the town but away from hustle and bustle. Though the way to hotel is bit steep for old travelers but just a min away from center. Would like to give a special mention about the homestay caretaker Mr. Shibu. He was very helpful and prompt with service. Helped us in arranging jeep for Kolukkumalai trip. Never tried food in the homestay but will miss Munnar coffee which we tried here. Had wonderful time watching distant mountain while sipping hot coffee from this compound. Booking was smooth over email by Mr. Sherin. Will come back again.

I have booked this homestay looking at the TripAdvisor rating. Unfortunately it has been a bad experience for me. The only good thing about the homestay is its proximity to the market and caretaker Kapil.
It is nothing more than a Lodge and calling it homestay would be misleading. There was no interaction with the owner who stays there, no food service and you have to go to the market for food. There are very few options for food in the market too. In simple words there is no feelgood factor the moment you step into the homestay.
I spoke to the owner on phone only before arriving there and he seems to be very nice person, but unfortunately he doesn't stay there and for our whole stay we were just in the care of Kapil. Actuality there is nothing much he can do also. Better to go for some Lodge, pay 600 bucks and stay.
We have booked woody room. It has very ordinary beds and not so clean mattresses .The bathroom was stinky and it continued smelling for our 2 day stay. There were insects and spider in the bathroom. I have pictures of those but I'm not posting it here.
This homestay doesn't even deserve 1000 bucks. Also I would advise TripAdvisor to evaluate ratings more frequently.
Caretaker Kapil is all you got there, he is very helpful.
