Royal Retreat is a 16 room private hotel built in 1988; it is located at Aluva -Munnar Road, and just a walk away from the Blossom gardens. What makes the hotel unique is its location unlike the hotels near and around Tea gardens, Royal Retreat is built like a set of cottages with an amazing garden in front, all major tourist attractions are only a stone throwaway. The feel is very cozy and personal. The hotel rooms are spacious with large windows, classic hardwood furniture and tasteful colors. Most rooms have temple view across our very popular garden adding to the sense of peace and tranquility you will experience here. The elegantly designed MULTI CUSINE RESTURANT which serves traditional, continental and Chinese cuisines has soothing interiors and a quiet ambiance, allowing you to enjoy your meal in peace and comfort

The location was great..right at the starting point for all the Munnar attractions. The room was clean, very well serviced and had all the necessary room amenities. Since Im a frequent traveler, it not quite easy to find such cleanliness in a budget hotel, especially places like Munnar. But we were very much impressed with our room and all the hotel staff greeted us with a smile. Mr.Charlie, the Manager for the Inn was always on a call whenever we needed and was helpful in so many ways. Be sure to meet this gentleman when you stay over there coz he is sooo helpful and caring. Another point to be mentioned is that the quality of the food was amazing and even the room service was top notch. All in all - a great place to stay and relax.

Munnar is a beautiful place and Royal retreat a small and cosy property on the Main road. They lack professional approach in terms of handling bookings etc and that again reiterates my stand of preferring a reputed chain of Hotels rather than small hotels to avoid such incidents.I contacted them through the website as I wanted some hotel close to the market and not very far away as some properties in Munnar are very far.Due to more people travelling I opted and got a confirmation for a Suite room(they have only one).Once I deposited money through NEFT,they replied that maybe on or around at the time of my arrival, the suite would be under renovation and they would give 2 seperate rooms(This should have been informed prior to the advance payment). When I arrived in Munnar,I was told the same thing about renovation(Mr.Sam at reception),but as the suite room is just at the entry point of all the accomodations,I could see that it was already occupied by some family with no signs of renovation anywhere.Being a frequent traveller,it did not take me long to realise, that as they have only 1 Suite, this must be a regular ploy to take bookings for the suite initially, and as there are lot of Walk-in's,they give it to other customer asking for a suite(maybe at a premium) and as for us advance bookings,we already have paid advance,so cannot help much.I could not think of taking any action(in other case I would have) with the authorities there as would be spoiling the vacation. My advise to the resort is that rather than giving excuse/s for the above and trying to justify(have all the things documented) the behaviour, concentrate on sorting this unprofessional approach.Otherwise, everything else was good.My stay 19/Mar/15 to 21/Mar/2015

Went here because it was described as reliable (or something similar) by a guidebook. It must have changed ownership or just be milking it's previous glory because it was poor, and very overpirced.
Cockroaches, hot water and electricity restricted to certain hours. It may have been due to some sort of refurbishment, but if not then it really has gone downhill since some of the previous reviews. Staff were not very helpful either.

dear guest, we are very much sorry for the inconvenience you come across our Hotel, as i said in one of my responses, normal hotel tariff in Munnar range from 2500-5000, the same is our current room rate Rs. 2500/- + taxes at the same time you can find lot of hotel rooms in metro cities below this tariff. climate in munnar is something different from plain area and you need painting/furnishing every 6months, we are also doing the same to our property too. for any centralised hotwater system requires timings for its operation as its consumes either gas, diesel or electricity, most of the people want hot water for morning and evening timings and we supply 6-10 both morning and evening. if any guest require hotwater in an uneven time we will supply the same without any hesitation i don;t why you mentioned this as a complaint. electricity is 24 hours as we got backup generator.

We got Hydel Garden facing room, but it was under maintenance :( Room was OK. Hot water only runs for certain time. Room has only one charging port. As out trip was in January end, Munnar temperature was chilled and Room has many windows. So AC or Fan was not required. But surprisingly there was NO FAN at all. Breakfast and Lunch/dinner was OK. But they put curry leaves in everything. And other eateries and general shops are far away from this place. Room TV has 99% South Indian Language channels. Hotel staff was good and soft spoken. But for me, Fan, TV, Hot Water these are few basic exceptions from any hotel. TRY TO AVOID IF POSSIBLE.

I went there with my family and we all loved the cottages. Very cosy and was the perfect place for a family. The location is beautiful. Value for money. We spent a lot of time on the hammocks and the view from the resort is very refreshing. :D

Overpriced room for what you got. Musty bathroom and dirty sheets that didn't cover the mattress, in a small room. The resort restaurant served very average food, and un-stomach-able sweetened toast and salty eggs. It had a nice garden and an alright location, however I would suggest booking at a different location slightly out of Munnar. You cannot call this a resort by any stretch of the imagination.
