A Culture Unravelled. A desert by definition, for those who value the beauty of culture, Rann is a vast ocean of cultural beauty. With a glorious past captured in its traditions this is a culture that not only preserves its essence but also celebrates it. Each village has its unique craft that has been mastered over centuries by the talented and uniquely artistic people of Kutch. Machine-made works of art pale in comparison to the exquisite craftsmanship of the Kutchi women who work with meticulous detail and astonishing accuracy. The variety of crafts range from weaving, patchwork, block printing, bandhani, tie-and-dye, rogan-art and other ethnic styles of embroidery, to pottery, wood-carving, metal-crafts and shell-work. With the specially organised fair, Rann Utsav is truly a festival that celebrates the varied art forms and handicrafts arising from different parts of Kutch.
Good package deal as it covers food, accommodation, few sightseeing and entertainment. well managed tents. Mornings and evening were cold but enjoyable. We witnessed sunrise and sunset as well. If some one is interested can make a trip to dholavira.( please do check for the access as sometimes roads are closed) you may find some flamingos around dholavira lake side which may be 90kms from tent city. food was good. Lot of shops inside and outside the tent city( just at the back exit gate. you may find price slightly lesser than the inside stalls. But not much difference. They will aslo organize guided cycle travel for sunrise / sunset which has to be pre booked at additional cost.

Great experience although several things can be improved. 1. The tents have big gaps allowing cold winds to enter the closed tents. 2. I like there policy to hire interns and they were young and willing to learn. Continue this practice. 3. On the day of sun set, several busses were taking us to the location but the directions given to us when we got down were unclear. There was not a single person who could explain the entire procedure. Some said get off here if you want to pay for the camel ride. Some said sit in the bus and we will drive back to where the camel rides are included in the package, No one seem to know what was going on with the result that we missed the camel ride. Disappointing. 4. Next day sight seeing was perfect with complete instructions about timing etc. 5. In the restaurant hall, every time we had to ask for napkins. …

We're so happy we took this trip and stayed at the Tent City. It is quite a revelation..... almost 5 km. of a tented city that is put up for the winters and taken down every year. It gives a great feeling of being out there in the vast Rann. The packages are pretty much all-inclusive, with accommodation, major sights and meals bundled into 1 night/2 nights/3 nights options. We took the 2 nights/3 days option, which was a good choice. Since we'd booked the Rajwadi tent, we were entitled to an exclusive airport pick-up, which got a little confused, but worked eventually. They had packed lunch sent to our tent; this was a blessing as we were famished in spite of the snack bag en route. The tent was really spacious and well-appointed with a large covered 'patio', a sitting room and a combined bedroom, a separate dressing and luggage room, and a nice en-suite bathroom. Very impressed! We were entitled to eat at the 'VIP Dining Room', and the meals (including the high-tea) were excellent. They do a good variety of Gujarati, North Indian and Continental food, well-made and wholesome. The first trip out that day was to see the sunset. We did the para-motoring (at our own expense) here and donned Kutchhi costumes for photos. A lot of fun! The sunset was beautiful (as it always is, anywhere!), though I must say that the Rann did not really live up to the promise of being the 'white Rann'... maybe it was the intense commercial footfalls??? Back at the Tent City they have a nice cultural show going late evening, the only bummer being that we attended it the next night as well, and it was the same :( The Tent City did not really offer much for us... the usual Kutchhi artifact shops, some games and vast areas to walk through with interesting props. So, we did the best thing on the trip and took a private car (arranged at the City's travel desk) down to Dholavira, the Harappan site which has now been declared a UNESCO Heritage Site. The 1.5 hours drive there gives you the most beautiful vistas of the white Rann and were so thankful we actually saw this wonder in its full glory. Dholavira is tremendously interesting and enlightening if you are into this kind of thing. I just felt so disappointed at how little we've done to preserve and showcase this priceless heritage.... We capped this trip with a visit to Kala Dungar, the highest point on the Rann and Gandhi nu Gaam, a rehabilitated village post the 2001 devastating earthquake. We also did a sunrise trip to the Rann (part of the package) which was breathtakingly beautiful. We were dropped back at Bhuj the next morning in an exclusive transfer with another 'Rajwadi' group. I heard some griping about facilities and the lack of the 'wow' factor. Frankly this was as good - and as much - as I'd expected. For a business that relies on volumes over a 3-4 months period, they do a great job with the humungous logistics management and the broad-based experience they strive to provide. If you want to visit this natural wonder, I can't think of a better way to do it than out of the Tent City. For sure, there are other trip/accommodation options available, but here is a solid, comprehensive package and experience on offer. …

The salt desert was a unique experience. A lot of people were unprepared for the salt experience. Shoes and pants got depigmented. The visits to the white rann were good but kalu dungaar was overstretched. The food at the tent city was reasonably good but should also cater to outlayers, green tea Replenishment of infrastructure needed at some places

Standing upon the white salty crystals that cover a marshy lowland, soaking in the vast expanse of the salt dessert of Kutch district in Gujarat and gazing into the horizon at sunrise and sunset, you are transported in your thoughts to a white pristine sandy beach almost untouched by human life. The nearest village to this white virgin beauty is Dhordo which boats of an annual 3 month winter festival “Rann Utsav” organised by Govt of India from December to February. It is an experience of local craft, culture, cuisine, and hospitality along with adventure sports like paramotoring, camel cart rides, bonfires and hot air ballooning. A make shift Tent City in Dhordo, for accommodation with local meals, is a special attraction of this festival and tents need to be booked online well in advance. This set up has a potential to give a partial Disneyland experience to some extent. Full moon nights are an added charm if visits are planned around them.…

Im a seasoned traveller and I did my homework of this place and knew that there was nothing here but had to tag with the group. Its a huge tent city. Check in was pathetic. The car park and reception are quite far. The bellboy at the park was not aware of our tents. So we had to go to the reception check in and then send our luggage to our tents. property is ultra Clean with2 massive dining halls which is always crowded and noisy. Most of the folks are hustling for food as if its in short supply. Absolutely nothing to see around except the sunset on the white sands. Night - cultural program and then morning have b fast and check out. For this we traveled so far and paid through our noses (xmas weekend). Definitely not worth it. But kudos to the person who thought of this as it has provided employment to so many folks and created a destination with nothing to do. …

Overall good experience at the Tent City. End to end arrangements are taken care of in the package. We took the 2 day 1 night package in a super preytent. We arrived by train at 8:30am in the morning and reported at their welcome tent outside Bhuj railway station. Toilet facilities at the welcome tent were decent. They also served hot tea and coffee which was appreciated in the cold weather. In half an hour, they got us into buses, loaded the luggage and took us to the tent city. Check in was a bit crowded. Luggage reached outside the tent soon. Tent was overall spacious and comfortable. Only negative part was noticing a rat in the bathroom. Food arrangements at the dining hall were good and cleanliness was also good. It seemed like attending a wedding with 4 meals in a day - all tasty and decent spread. One negative part was the allotted buses and loading of luggage on the way back which was very disorganized and took a lot of time. I had to myself lug my luggage when it never reached from the tent to the main gate thru their contracted loaders. The sight seeing was mostly a waste of time as they give very less time - rather than covering 3 places, they should just stick to one or 2 and give sufficient time at that place. There are senior citizens who cannot walk fast to get down from the buses, visit the place and quickly return. Overall good experience with definitely some scope of improvement.…

We stayed for 3Nights with family. The hospitality was beyond expectations, such elaborate arrangements done with perfection to cater to the variety of guests including the difficult ones. The day tours and the guide in the bus Govind was amazing. I wanted to however raise that some of the camel's had wounds on their bodies and even during their sleep hours they were being made to give rides. Maybe a session for guests and children to share what they eat, what scares them and their sleep hours and feeding time so that children can know more about them and feed them healthy would make it more humane. Camel carts and rides are totally unnecessary at the end of the day. Lot of stray dogs too looking so thin and without access to water whereas there is so much food wastage from the vast buffets with 50 varieties. Along with hospitality a show of kindness would be terrific.…

We had a lovely experience of staying at the Tent City and experiencing the Rann Utsav. The way the whole tent city is designed is admirable and they have taken into account every tiny detail. From the check in - the staff was courteous and made sure we were made comfortable. The food menu was elaborate and tasty. The way the itinerary was planned, made sure we got a chance to rest as well as enjoy all the adventures and the beautiful landscapes. There is no better way to enjoy the magnificence of the White Rann than staying at the Tent City. I would love to go back there again.
