Hotel is beautifully marketed with stunning pics. In actual, interiors is shabby, not maintained, everything looking rundown, peeling paint, stained and broken window blinds, stuffy, never aired lounge area on first floor where the rooms are, shower area shabby and broken floor drains ( in both the rooms we stayed in), very noisy small fridge, extremely shabby bed cover etc. I am an architect and interior designer and was looking forward to this ‘gem’ which they say was mentioned in the New York Times. I also subscribe and read the New York Times so really thought this must be a very special place. Every thing about this place was screaming ‘backpacker, basic’ and not ‘chic’ or anything designer as indicated on their website. Breakfast served is less than poor quality. This place may work for young lovestruck couples blind to surroundings but was extremely disappointing for us. More so because their website raised our expectations enormously…
Nice rooms with awesome interior design! This renovated historical building is great to explore. Rooms are cozy and spacious; however, not all rooms come with balcony. Breakfast was good. Check in was a bit slow and it is not easy to find this hotel (tip: look for a two floors yellow building). There are nice bars right near the hotel (such as St Antonio). A bit overpriced hotel, but still a good option.
Great little boutique hotel, very tasteful, in the heart of Fontainhas in Panjim. Next to super Tapas bar Antonio @31 de Janeiro. And one street away from Joseph bar. Best place to stay in Fontainhas in my opinion.
You want to experience the old school charm of staying at a Portuguese style home then this is the place . Well kept , well managed and mostly a homely feel of what you get when u stay at Mateus . The property makes you feel at home . I’ve stayed there Solo and with friends it’s been just a perfect experience. The staff is so sweet and friend and always out there to help . It’s makes you comfortable when the team always has a smile on their face . I’d recommend this place to who ever wants to stay around Panjim and experience the joy of the old world .
Stayed here in December with my family for a couple of days. If you’re looking for a place in Panjim, I would highly recommend Mateus. The location is super convenient and in a beautiful part of town. Lovely vibes in a charming, cozy, well maintained heritage home. Really appreciate the attention to detail and aesthetics in the rooms as well as the rest of the property. Ayan and his team running the place truly contribute to the warm and pleasant atmosphere at Mateus. Very delightful experience staying here.
Mateus a beautiful 200 Year old Portuguese Villa converted into boutique hotel in the heart of Fontainhas. It was a comfortable stay with good service. The team is a very helpful and friendly. If you are staying in Panjim, you can book room over there.
Very beautiful property. Authentic goan architecture and still equipped with modern amenities. Clean and well maintained bathrooms. Staff is really really friendly and courteus. Overall a very very comfortable stay. Recommended for a small group of friends where you can book the entire property of 7-8 rooms. All thanks to Ayaan, Krishna and Rohit.
Mateus has the most gracious and warm host Ayan who looked after us and made us feel at home at all times. The staff is super friendly and always around to help. The place is just beautiful and every nook is well crafted with love and a vintage aesthetic. The rooms are very comfortable, with all the old charm but with all the modern amenities. We traveled first as a couple and then got our huge group of friends to stay their all together. The entire experience was absolutely delightful because of the attentiveness and care Ayan and his team gave us. Would highly recommend to couples, travelling friends or families.
It’s a beautiful vintage property located inside the Latin Quarters, easily approachable by road. The rooms are with vintage tall ceilings, fairly spacious, nice comfy beds and the rooms facing the road are large, airy and well lit. They have a nice, well behaved team of people led by the friendly Ayan, who are always approachable, if needed. The breakfast is homely and they make it for you in the house. You can always order food from outside for Lunch & Dinner, if you don’t feel like going out. Since it’s an old house, so mobile connectivity might be an issue for some, though they have WiFi. See There are few bar cum restaurants nearby, including the popular Josesph’s Bar. So you won’t be out of options. Casinos, Medicine Shops, Petrol Pumps and other stores are also within walking distance. So overall, a nice experience to stay here. 🙂…
The place is located within close proximity to all major attractions in Fontainhas. The rooms and decor are something which really stands out. You will find amazing portraits in the property to add beauty to your inhouse insta clicks. Lastly the hospitality shown by the Host Mr Ayaan was something which made our stay a memorable one. He and his team will leave no stone unturned to serve you and will always be there for their guests. Thanks Team Mateus for a wonderful holiday experience !
