We spent three days recently at Aimeo Lodge, or “Club Bali Hai” as it used to be known. Our stay here was beyond a dream. It was heaven! The view is incredible, and the price, for an over-water bungalow, can’t be beat. If you can live with a little bit of run-down-ness (the family has plans to rebuild), you won’t be disappointed. Just know in advance it’s not the Hilton, and for very good reason. It’s not cookie-cutter! It’s locally owned and operated, which makes it way more delightful. The four well-fed kitties that roam the grounds will be happy to bunk in with you, or entertain you on your patio. The pool is open at all hours. The kayaks are free, and ready to use at any time. The wi-fi in the reception area worked flawlessly and reliably. The grounds are mostly dark at night (watch your step!), much better for star-gazing off your deck. Everything in the unit was operative—A/C in the bedroom, fan, stove, plumbing (watch the tap water—it’s boiling hot!). The tiled shower was clean, bright, and large.

We could not have been more enthralled. The beds were good, the linens were crisp and clean (we did request a newer set of pillows, and got them with a smile), the unit itself was quite clean, the proprietors friendly and helpful. And that view! Truly, it’s to die for. Swim right off your own private deck, with steps and rinse shower. You can stand up a long ways out, on the sandy bottom. Beautiful, clear blue-green water. Come here soon, as this place is going away in its current form, and when it’s redone, you won’t be able to afford it. Situated along Cook’s Bay, it has the best spot for both mountain and water views on the entire island. Love you, Aimeo Lodge! I’ll be dreaming of you the rest of my life.

Recommendation: Stop at the local “Supermarche” a half-mile or so down the road and buy: salt (if you plan to cook), butter and/or cooking oil, paper towels, and a clean sponge/dish scrubber, along with whatever food you’ll want to prepare yourself. Restaurant food in the islands is prohibitive in price, so having the kitchenette here can save you a fortune.

Our fare over water.
We stayed 10 days whilst swimming with humpback whales, a most fantastic experience, courtesy of Moorea Ocean Adventures.
Convenient location with a small store providing all needs just couple hundred metres away.
Also many water based tours pick up from here
The fare comfortable with self catering facilities but very basic.
Bring your own sharp knife!
I understand the business has reverted from the time share to the local owners who have employed a manager. The staff are wonderful and are working on restoring the resort to former glories.
Great value particularly for a longer term stay

We were worried when we booked in to this resort with the bad reviews...We went in August 2018 (now run as Amieo) We were all blown out by the experience in a good way.. There is not much tide difference in Moorea so the water around the bungaloo seemed to be the same all day. Views the best we had ever seen.
We felt very lucky to stay in this place. The open air restaurant was open for breakfast and lunch although we did most of our cooking ourselves.
Over the six nights we stayed there we were also lucky enough to enjoy the local dancers practising for their hotel shows. Also, we had thrown in a traditional island wedding on our doorstep that we were invited to join in. Yes, the resort is over 50 years old and is in need of a slight tidy up. But, we did not care and loved it for what is was. We are going to go back and we would stay in this place above all others.

I'm telling everyone who will listen - DON'T STAY HERE!

We made reservations 9/25/2017 for 4 rooms and 7 people. We received written conformations from the resort. We were very excited to have a great time in Moorea with friends and family. During today's last minute checking for information, Hubert Boutin at Aimeo told us we have NO reservations. We emailed him our confirmation letter. He never bothered to reply. Don't risk him doing this to you too.

There are stories on-line about the property being sold, all employees being fired, etc. I'm sure we are not the only people arriving without a reservation waiting.

We spent thousands on flights, rental cars, etc. It was reckless of both Mr Boutin not to make sure guests received notice that they cancelled our reservations. We are still going to Moorea, but the resort will cost us an additional $6400.

The new owners should have honored any reservations that were made, or make very sure the person on the reservation was notified.

Be on notice: if you decide to make reservations here, at the very least you MUST keep checking on them to make sure they didn't get cancelled. Better yet GO ELSEWHERE!

We loved every minute of our stay. Great breakfast! It is so relaxing and close to everything. Rent a car across the street. Yes an automatic for $90 for 24 hours and you drive on the right side of the road. Drive around the island...stop for lunch....before 2pm! Don't miss the Lagoonarium! You Go 10 min past the ferry and it is a small building on the beach on the left. If you come to the pharmacy turn and go back about 1 minute. You need 38 dollars cash and they send for a boat to pick you up. Take your snorkel gear. You will have the experience of a lifetime! You can pull yourself around the ocean where there is healthy large coral, big fish, rays, black tip sharks all living in harmony. The fish feeding at 11:30am is not to be missed. Plan at least 3 or 4 hours there. Book a day trip to snorkel and go to the motou with Alberts, it is a must! Gas station across the street for water or food, or store 10 min.walk. The restaurant's will pick you up and bring you back for free...Rudys, parrotfish not to be missed! Our Overwater Bungalow had a bedroom with a door so private from the daybed, kitchen, bathroom. It is an older establishment but has it all! Jay, we are sorry we did not get to say goodbye, but our breakfast chats were so special. I had no problem with my Tesloop trip.....so give them a try. Our best regards....Eleanor and Cheryl

Another quick point here- to catch the ferry to Moorea, you need to pay in Cash, unless you have more than two people taking the ferry. There is a minimum for using a credit card for ferry tickets. So I would recommend... More
