Normal size room. Pillow too soft. Arrived late at night with our tour group and the hotel does not even bother to on lobby lights, it was so dark. Breakfast is one of the worst I ever had. Limited selection, smelly cup, dirty plate and sour fresh milk.

Contrary to some other recent reviewers we enjoyed our stay here. The hotel has an unusual and quite impressive reception area, overlooked by internal corridor balconies at each level up to the roof. The bedroom was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was not bad at all. Also, we were able to purchase reasonably priced beers etc at the little... More

This hotel is for quick-overnights only! Hence the large amount of touring cars in the evening that are all gone by early morning. Perhaps they obtained a four-star at the opening but everything is outdated. Including the breakfast. Very unfriendly staff, and a free shuttle service to Old Town that does not even take you there... Our room has one... More

This really is not a decent hotel for westerners, or anyone else for that matter. Yes we all need to embrace different cultures and try out different foods, but several things say "beware". The worst is the state of the dining room, especially for breakfast, which is the only meal that most will have in it. My complain is not... More

We stayed at this hotel on a recent Wendy wu tour unfortunately we were late arriving, and lunch had obviously been cooked for quite a while so it wasn't the best, the staff in the restaurant were not very pleasant. Room a little tired as is the rest of the hotel, but it is clean and the bed was comfortable,... More

We stayed at this hideous hotel for 1 night during a recent Wendy Wu tour around China and were profoundly disappointed with the quality of this hotel. Our concerns include: *Our room was dirty when we arrived - there were used toothpicks on the floor, and sticky old fruit in the bathroom. We complained and the staff cleaned the room... More

Stayed here on our Wendy Wu tour. Happy with the hotel, but cannot comment on value for money. Lovely view of the mountains from the bedroom. An easy walk into the delightful Dali. Another good stay on our well-organised tour.

You should only stay in this Stalinist monstrosity if you have to. I had to because my employer booked me into the place. But I spoke with other visitors to Dali who said they were staying in charming, smaller places, and they were very happy. Everything about the place is dated, dingy, and worn-out. The carpets are stained and frayed.... More

The Asia Star seems to be primarily a ‘group tour overnight’ hotel with, when we stayed, 5 different tour groups all seemingly descending at once. This provided the problem of various groups getting up very early (5am on both mornings we stayed) with lots of noise. The hotel itself is quite grand with a super atrium with a large mural... More

Nice Mountain-view from my room and Convenience with amenities provided. Free wifi in room but it's not good. Breakfast is a very Chinese style, more vegetables than meat. The Dali Old town is very nice place, recommended.
