i didn't book to stay here, we stayed at the Hilton opting for more luxury digs. However we made a point to visit and our guide called and arranged so we could visit at tea time. It was a pleasure to meet Billy Linden and his wife, Jeanie. Billy has spent a lot years in china, speaks the local language...

We are honored when guests, who spend even a short time with us, are moved to write comments about their stay. While we cannot replicate the luxury of the newly built Hilton, we can outshine them and any other hotel with our passion and knowledge. Even during your short visit, you were able to feel the soul and professionalism that...

During our tour of Yunnan in November 2016, we stayed two nights in the Linden Centre. We arrived in pouring rain to be given an extremely warm welcome by Brian, the owner. Our room in the last courtyard was large and comfortable with all the amenities we needed. As soon as the rain stopped, we went up to the roof...

Dali is beautiful and you don't need to stay in the same commercialized bar-street type of hotels. Linden Center in Xizhou is built around nature and deep respect for the local community and its heritage. The rooms are basic, but very clean and well taken care off -it's price maybe a little on the high side, but know that you...

We aim to make the Centre a home for all visitors. This being said- we fully believe that a home relies on more than just its structure to make it alluring. We knew that the cultural bureau would never allow us to alter the structure of our historic complex. We thus had to rely on the passion of our local...

Very, very happy to stay at The Linden Centre for a second time this year. Xizhou and the centre were generally much quieter during winter than my spring visit. Still, the skies were blue, fields beautiful, and town life increasingly vibrant. The Linden Centre is a top-notch place for relaxation and opportunities to experience authentic Chinese culture, including that of...

The Linden Centre is truly amazing. The sense of culture and history is all around in the building. In this village next to Dali, the environment is also very beautiful and relaxing. Everything's very pleasant here: the rooms are comfortable, the food is delicious, the owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming, the village is very fascinating and traditional....

A restored courtyard house, in a village outside Dali. Very rural, surrounding by rice fields. Rooms are comfortable, restaurant is good, staff are really friendly and helpful, atmosphere is relaxed and happy. Great to meet other travellers and exchange stories. . We had a guided walk around Xizhou, visited the embroidery school (definitely worthwhile), a rice noodle factory, and a...

When you have visited many dirty " multimillion cities " in China for the last 19 years the small village Xizhou near Dali is a rough diamond. The Linden Centre, created and managed by Brian and his team, is a relief. The atmosphere is very special and all employees involved are doing their utmost to please you. The rooms are...

Staying at the Linden Center is an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. In the village of Xizhou, near Dali, Yunnan, it is situated on the old Tea Hours Trail, aka the Southern Silk Route. Not only is a stay in this restored merchant's home an experience of authentic history but the staff is amazing...so friendly and knowledgeable and willing to meet your...

Jeanee L, Owner at The Linden Centre, responded to this review

Anais Nin eloquently professed that "We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls." This belief is what inspired Jeanee and me to create the Centre. We saw China- the repository of thousands of years of cultural traditions and wisdom- destroying their heritage to cater to the short-term luxury demands of first time- and less...
