Stay in another lodge or hotel, if you can! The lodging was rustic with marginal equipment. Service was limited. The owner/manager is an astronomer, who works through the night and sleeps during the day. The staff has strict orders not to wake him, so if you have problem you will have to wait until the middle of the afternoon to...

My daughter & I stayed in lodge 1, equipped with a bedroom with 2 single beds, full bathroom with reliable hot water, and a small kitchen/dining room with stove, oven, and mini fridge--no microwave. The lodge also provides a 20 liter water cooler, which the two of us nearly emptied over the course of 4 days! The staff, though usually...

If you have rented a car, and if you are fascinated by stars and planets, this is the perfect place. Alain and his wife are very welcoming, their lodges are well equipped and the astronomical tools are great, especially when Alain gives details... We had a really great time, thanks !!!

A place to be if you are a star gazing fanatics. Mostly used by astronomical clubs from around the world. Surprised to find there was no entry in TripAdvisor. There is a hotel (Cottages) in the place where you can stay. You can rent telescopes. Away from main town ( apox 6 to 7 KM ) .

We arrived in San Pedro sans baggage, which had been stolen in Calama earlier that day -- our car was broken into. Alain kindly lent us big ski jackets to keep warm during our stay. The Lodge is 5 km south of town and *very* quiet and *very* dark at night, in line with the owners' astronomy activities. Our adobe...

Our group of five stayed here for two nights for three reasons: to go on a star tour; to gaze at the night skies on our own; and to have a full day of rest from all the excursions in a quiet and spectacular setting. We shopped for groceries in San Pedro and had two taxis drop us off; it...

The lodge is 3,5 km away from San Pedro... This means you need a car, but then you can fully enjoy that isolated place. The lodges are perfect. Clean, spacious, fully equipped and nicely decorated. Each lodge has a private terrace to admire the summits on the Bolivian side. The owner is a French astronomer and with his wife they...

What an amazing place this is. It's part of the observatory that's used for the star tours in the evenings. We had lodge number one and couldn't of enjoyed it more. Your totally self sufficient (if you have your own food) with a great kitchen, drinking water, hot water, a gas heater and even an area outside where you can...

My wife and I spent two nights here in a lodge whilst in san pedro. We loves every minute of it. The views alone from our bedroom window of the volcano and the mountains were worth the trip alone! We also took the star tour on our second night. Alain is a fantastic funny guy who is passionate about what...

“Definitely need a car. Bring flashlights. Get there before dark or you'll never find the way. (We paid a taxi to lead us out there in the dark.) Be sure to take the stargazing tour, which is by an active professional astronomer. Plan on staying a few days; this is not a place to be rushed.”
