The hotel suited us fine as we were only there for one night and it was very close to the bus stop (the shuttle to the airport). The rooms were adequate, as was the breakfast - don't expect anything great!

This is a nice hotel located in what was once a very dodgy and dangerous part of the city but nowadays after a lot of work by the police it is relatively safer but don't let your guard down especially at night as dodgy characters are close by especially lots and lots of homeless people. Located about a block from...

There's nothing special about a stay here but it's good enough for a short stay in SP. The location is very convenient, right near Praca Republica and the Republica metro station. It's a short walk through the square to the pedestrian shopping precinct and the old town. But as noted by others it is not recommended to walk around the...

The location is very central, near to Praca da Republica. This is something of a two-edged sword; it is close to lots of bars, restaurants, and important sights, but also near many sex shops, porn theatres, etc. Not an area to bring young children. The hotel itself is OK. Not luxurious by any means, but adequate for a couple of...

Hotel Itamarati is located about 1 block from Praca da Republica, easily walkable from airport bus terminal, a main reason why I chose it. It is an older building, needing upgrades, but generally clean and apparently safe and provides reliable accommodation. Staff are efficient, but not particularly friendly or welcoming. Rooms are smallish and overall the hotel is a bit...

If you get a room upstairs facing the back of the building (opposite the breakfast area on the other side of the courtyard) they are clean, quiet and beautiful throughout. You can also pick up a detachable keylock from the reception if you chose to lock up your room's safe. In case you run out of sd/micro sd card like...

I stayed in a twin room on 5th floor in early December 2013. The room impression is even more insistant than the rest of the hotel. That is a room with outdated furniture, almost like in a theme hotel. Some might like this "never-refurbished" aspect some might just not like it at all. The staff is very helpful even though...

Stayed in the hotel whilst on a group tour. The location is central (about 5min walk from the metro Republica), and the historic centre is within walking distance. On the downside, you should stay on the main roads and do NOT walk in the Republic Square during the night (unsafe). Our room was basic but clean, faced the road, but...

Stayed here whilst on an organised trip and certainly wouldn't return. Place is outdated and dirty - wasn't sure whether I was taking dirt off or putting it on in the shower. My room faced onto the main street and was incredibly noisy (almost felt like my bed was actually in the street) and it certainly didin't feel safe stepping...

I don't care if it's free to stay in this place, it was horrible. Some people may describe it as retro, but in reality it hasn't been decorated or refurbished since the 70's. The windows in our room were rusted shut, the shower cubicle was held together with rust and was tiny - putting your tetanus booster to work. There...

Staying in Republica

Neighbourhood Profile
Republica
Part of the historical centre of São Paulo, República was once a fancy residential area. República Square holds a craft and food fair every weekend, right by the subway entrance. Nearby, one of the neighbourhood’s main attractions is the Italian Building, where you can see the city from the 42nd floor. The Copan Building also deserves a close look, with 1,160 apartments and a huge floor area that inspired filmmakers and other artists. To get the feeling of São Paulo in the beginning of the 1900s, visit the Municipal Theatre – you will be amazed by its architecture. The area also features several galleries. República is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
