This is a lovely place to stay as long as you will never need tea or coffee before 8am. In spite of the kitchen staff starting at 6am, no amount of begging will get you boiled water before 8am. Quite often you will have a car picking you up at 8am and if you are like 90% of the world...

We came to this hotel following 4 nights in luxury hotels in Sao Paulo and Iguacu on the recommendation of an agent in London. It has nine very comfortable rooms and a reception area that doubles as an art gallery. The view from the terrace is fabulous. Our room had a high ceiling with a bedroom area constructed over the...

We just returned from a month-long trip to Brazil, spending the last week in Rio at Castelinho38. We loved the Santa Teresa neighborhood where the hotel is located, particularly the restaurants, the views of the city, the quaintness and the activity. And, we found the location very convenient. It was easy to get to the center of Rio by tram...

The building is charming, beautiful but it has got the disadvantages of the antiquities. The room where we stayed was very cosy and tastfully decorated but the bathroom was quite small (microscopic sink) and the heating of the water a bit rudimental. Not a huge deal though. The striking thing about Castlinho was the staff. Talise was absolutely amazing. She...

Based on a wonderful web site and the TripAdvisor reviews, we decided to stay in Castelinho38. The breakfast was marvelous, and the views from the terrace lovely. We ended up taking the Limoeiro suite, which was a loft and lacked the high ceilings/light from the other rooms. Peeking at those other rooms, they seemed much more beautiful. Also, the room...

This bed and breakfast is ideally located high on the Santa Teresa hill. An easy walk downhill to town by the new cathedral. A charming safe neighbourhood with great little restaurants at very reasonable rates. Wonderful trolley ride home every night. Our preconceived ideas of Rio were unfounded we travelled all over by metro and walking, every where was clean...

If you want to feel more the colonial aspects of Rio you are perfectly located in Santa Teresa district and there Castelinho38 offers the perfect home base. Relatively intimate, located on top of a hill but (if there is no party at night ;-) a real quiet place in the old heart of Rio d.J. Most rooms are tiny (but...

We have spent 8 nights in Castelinho 38 and I could say that was a decision I am proud of. Santa Teresa is a very charming and quite neighborhood. It has nothing to do with noisy and full of people Copacabana etc. The rooms are great, each of its own style. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. It has...

Great value for money, warm , welcoming and attentive hosts, beautiful location, incredible views, unique design, very comfortable rooms. We stayed at Castelinho for a week over New Year and had been a bit concerned about how complicated/dangerous the whole experience would be - the team at Castelinho ensured that we had absolutely nothing to worry about. They arranged everything...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
