Melbourne, Australia

I stayed here for 2 weeks during the olympics. It is a basic hotel - clean, comfortable for sleeping - with very friendly, honest staff although not much English. Breakfast not great & wifi inconsistent. Good for access to public transport & museums etc plus refurbished port. Food at night hard to find unless you head to around rue Rosario.

My son and I stayed here during the world cup It would be very easy to lay the boots into this place, stating that it didn't live up to expectations, but that would be implying expectations were held. This tired old building provided everything it said it would. It was the cheapest available accommodation in Rio during the world cup,...

To describe this hotel as 3 star is very deceiving. This is a 1 star facility. I struggle to call it a hotel. The rooms are awful. They are grubby, poorly furnished and the bathrooms are ancient. The "restaurant" is awful.

Up side is central to some of Rio's best museums & galleries & near the tube. The reception staff are helpful & speak limited english.we only stayed for 2 nights during the World Cup so we had the added insult of paying premium.in its day it would've been at best 2 star.i can't begin now.

This place is dirty , falling apart , and a potential health hazard - exposed electrical wires !!. We stayed for a few nights due to World Cup and the management must be exploiting the fact that accommodation is limited in Rio. It's such a shame as the flip side to what I can simply say is the worse hotel...

Staff was friendly and wasnt expecting much from the rooms but still in the US this would be a 1 star room, but definetly heard of worse places to stay during the world cup. So if you are looking for a place just to lay your head this place works. Only a few blocks from the metro or a 30...

I stayed here for five nights. It was dirty and falling apart. The shower recess was horrible. The wi-fi only works in a few rooms so you have to sit in the corridor. Some days it didnt work at all and when it did it was so slow. The bread at breakfast was stale. It is also a good 20min...

Stayed overnight at this hotel while in transit out of brazil. The location was very convenient to get around town. Taxis are available easily and buses stop right outside the door. The room was small and the AC was a slightly noisy piece that belonged in a museum. There were only 4 channels on the TV. Bed was comfy and...

On the edge of Centro in Rio. The hotel staff were very welcoming even though there was a very limited usage of English. They made every effort to overcome this for the entire stay. Two reception staff were of specific note. G & R because they did everything they could to assist and a translation app on my phone was...

We spend 8 nights there at the carnival time 2013. They were the worst hotel nights of my life. -No hygiene what so ever. We even saw COCKROACHES in the restaurant. First morning the bread served for breakfast was in mold. Bed linen is terrible, they haven't been changed in decades. I don't even want to know about the bathrooms...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
