I just checked out from the Fairmont Copacabana and I am feeling depressed already! This was one of the best hotel stays that I had in my life. Upon check in, we were pleasantly surprised with a an unexpected upgrade from a room to a suite. The rooms are simply stunning. Beautiful colors, the air conditioning is incredible and cools instantly, and the nespresso machine is always a luxury must have! The rooms are sound proof, you feel that you are alone in the hotel. The bed is the extremely comfortable.

The staff of this hotel are phenomenal. I must mention in specific, Camille from guest relations who arranged for me a couple of requests before arrival. Jaqueline from the front desk for her professionalism and personalized service upon check in and check out. Maurice from the concierge is one of the best I have seen in the way he gives his undivided attention to hotel guests. He is so knowledgeable and arranged for us what we required from tours during our stay. Finally Alfredo from the concierge. He is attentive, professional and a walking lit person who takes care of everything around him. The staff are a real asset to this hotel.

The location of this hotel is simply perfect. It connects ipanema and copacabana beaches. So it gives u access to both sides.

The hotel also offers a beach service at copacabana beach where towels and cold water are provided.

Don’t stay anywhere else, this is the place to be in Rio!

This hotel is one of the best in Rio, we got a great treatment starting from the reservation process, that we got a early check in at 9:00am and late check out at 7:30 pm..without paying anything for it!!
The hotel decor and rooms are modern and very unique, the view from the room is one of a kind in Rio, we had the All Copacabana beach in front of us,really amazing.
We had a great treatment from all staff members, especially from Raquel, the Gold Lounge Manager, and all her staff members, all waiters, butlers etc.
Breakfast and food was delicious, very good selection of food .
Swimming pool is wonderful, very nice view and a good service, the same as all public areas in the hotel .
Finally, don’t think too much! This is your first choice in Rio!

This hotel was newly renovated, and our stay was smooth from beginning to end. The front desk spoke perfect English and the rooms were lovely. We had an ocean view room and enjoyed sitting on our balcony with views of SugarLoaf and Copacabana Beach.

The gorgeous infinity-style pool had a great poolside menu and view, and we loved their breakfast buffet. They are extremely conscientious of the Covid situation—from temperature check every time you enter the hotel, to individually wrapped items at the buffet, to a monogrammed MASK HOLDER (this was the first time I had seen this anywhere in the world during the pandemic—what a premium addition with attention to detail) they provided you with in the restaurant so you didn’t have to set it on the table—we were impressed; they are taking all precautions.

Special thanks to the hotel for allowing for a late check out on our final day, it was very generous. We hope to return and would highly recommend if you are in Rio!

As this was my first time traveling to Rio I was told to be close to both Copacaban & Ipanema Beaches so I chose the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana just because it was on Copacabana Beach and a short walk to Ipanema. I would say that this hotel is just perfect. They have two pools but the main pool is just a bit small for the size of the hotel. The service staff is very well trained. The concierge were great and I say that they made my stay even better. I was very pleased with the treatment. I was a bit perturbed one day because in most hotels I have stayed around the world if I have an additional guest I can have them over. At the Fairmont, if I ad already 2 people in the room I couldn't have a guest come to my room to change for an evening out. I was told he could go to the GYM and change there. I was trying to reason with them but to no avail. I was trying to reason with them but to no avail. The restaurants are very good and the breakfast variety was great but a bit overpriced at $30 USD for breakfast. A few days before my departure I hired the Car Service that's at the Hotel through the Concierge to take me to GIG at 3:00 AM and to a No Show! Thank god I had Uber as a backup.

I’ve just returned from spending two weeks at the Fairmont Rio de Janeiro. I have a long history with this hotel as it was the very first hotel I stayed at in Rio on my first trip there back in the late 1980’s. Back then it was called the “Rio Palace Hotel.” Since then it has gone through a few iterations including being the Sofitel and now the Fairmont. When it was the Sofitel it was closed to complete a top to bottom renovation. Current guests are the beneficiaries of the overhaul. I stayed in a one bedroom ocean front suite which was roomy, well equipped and had four balconies (two off the living room and two off the bedroom). Both rooms had large flat panel televisions. The bathroom shower is large enough for several people.

The amenities at the Fairmont Rio are excellent. The morning breakfast, in the Brazilian tradition, is sumptuous and extensive. Lots of fresh fruit, made-to-order omelettes, meats, and juices including a green “detox” drink, perfect for repairing the damage a few caipirinhas can cause from the evening before. This hotel has the very unique feature of having two swimming pools. The “morning” pool is an infinity pool on the front, Copacabana beach side of the hotel which abuts the hotel’s restaurant. For afternoon sun, there is a separate pool on the back side of the hotel. Lots of servers at both to make sure you’re well cared for. The gym is modern and well equipped. This hotel has an excellent location at the very end of Copacabana beach where it meets Ipanema beach. So you have both beaches close and available to you. Separating the two beaches is the historic military fort and museum.

I’ve saved the best for last. You can build a nice building in a fine location but that doesn’t make for a great hotel. The staff here are amazing. Competent, always smiling, and ready to help. It is very clear that the employees of the Fairmont Rio are very well trained to a 5 star international hotel standard. The management should be commended for such excellence.

Security is omnipresent but not intrusive. Everyone entering the hotel is checked for COVID policy compliance and there are disinfectant dispensers everywhere.

My highest recommendation. I will return soon!

Food service staff is very unprofessional with very few having knowledge of English or Spanish. Portuguese they think is the universal language . The food from the snack bar and cafe is awful and limited. The food in main dining room is passable. I had to bring out the chef from the kitchen to get bacon on a berger. The room decor they call “ minimalistc” which is a european way of basically saying cheap and sparse. They actually closed the main pool area to the entire hotel on a saturday for the entire day because the management was trying to impress some fashion wannabes . Was the most unprofessional hotel act i have ever seen because that pool area with its view is the only thing this catastrophe has going for it. Room service is also awful having to send back cold steak three times in the same evening .The entryway to the room feel on my partners head. Dont go to this hotel if you value your life ! The GM promoted from the front desk obviously has no sense of what first class service is.Then you have this Aussie who runs sales who is a real “ gem “ The biggest BS artist i have seen in awhile. He also has very little sense of what first class service is.As A Former CEO I Suggest that the Owners in France send a General Manager from Europe to turn this sad castastrophe around and present this hotel in the light of the excellent Fairmont Brand

We were excited to stay at this hotel because of its location. We normally prefer Ipanema but since it was at the end of Copacabana it wasn’t too bad. The location is across the beach, and there is a little section with Fairmont umbrellas that are just for hotel guests.

Check in was a little slow, but the staff was very friendly. She showed us around a bit and even checked up with us after we got settled to see if we liked the room.

The room itself is very nicely decorated. The shower has nice pressure and the towels are really fluffy. The bed is soft and comfortable and there are a lot of outlets and switches on both sides of the bed. There needs to be one more piece of furniture in the room, like under the television, to store more things. I don’t normally unpack, but since there was only one place to out a suitcase I didn’t have a choice. I also enjoyed the balcony off the room, which overlooked the port with Copacabana on the left and Ipanema on the right.

There are two pools, one that overlooks Copacabana and has the restaurant and bar nearby. The second pool is in the back and gets the late morning and afternoon sun. Service here is a bit slow since there is no direct bar access. We waited almost 30 minutes for a drink and there was no one else around us to serve.

The concierge are very helpful and have a lot of good tips. They always have us a bottle of water when we left, which we really appreciated.

The hotel is really nice and service is really great with the concierge and check in, but the bar staff around the pool can improve. Also the breakfast buffet does not have the best option, and if it isn’t included in your rate it can be expensive.

£400.00 sterling per night inc breakfast (Carnival prices)which was fair.

THE BAD (all pretty minor but irritating)
_______

1.Sketchy house keeping, toilet rolls one day then none next day.
2.Usual in room T bags/ creamers never replenished without asking.
3.No carpets so floor mats for beds supplied, vanished after day 2.
4.Sometimes balcony floor / table cleaned, other days not.
5.Room service breakfast every
order missing something 5 days running so had to call to redeliver.
6.Tight security screens surround entrance to hotel as it is a collection point for Sambadrome tickets, and some security staff pretty sullen.
7.Hotel beach area across rd is public beach and a mobile generator was going flat out right next to loungers,so did not return.

THE GOOD
________

1.Extremely clean ,recently totally refurbished/rebranded,perfect condition.
2.Very tranquil front pool/ restaurant area with fantastic views over Copacabana
3.Safe-ish area.
4.Rooms generous, balconies generous (real balconies rare in Rio)
5.Aircon superb/quiet
6.Wonderful large shower,immaculate.
Beds especially good, firmish which is good for bad backs like mine.
7.Internet fairly good(12th floor)
8.Corridors very quiet,no noise through walls.
9.Superb soundproofing through sliding doors in such a busy place.
10.Loads of lifts.
11.Check in staff extremely professional.
12.Concierge extremely helpful.
13.Staff in bar/ Restaurant extremely helpful /polite ,always smiling.

I would only ever stay here whilst in Rio.

We were couple, my wife and myself, selected this Fairmont hotel because of being Fairmont and because of its location.
Location wise it’s perfectly located at the Copacabana beach and just meters from Ipanema beach and steps from the historic Army museum and Front of Copacabana.
Everything is surrounding you. Staff are so friendly, helpful and available for help, specially the concierge and reception.
The hotel is clean with noticeable effort in keeping that But we had an unpleasant experience with the supply of the daily complementary supplies. We should call daily for filling the tea and coffee ( we are not alcohol users ) water and bathroom amenities!
Miscommunication between help desk and housekeeping!?
The administration, responds politely to our complaints and send a nice apology with chocolate, really respected and admired by us.
They did remember my birthday and again sent a cake with a touchy note.
Generally I advices the management to perform more training courses to the housekeeping and minibar refillers to meet the needs of the guests and push their English a little bit!
Thank you

We have been very privileged to be able to travel all around the world over the last couple of decades. We’ve had the chance to stay at some of the best hotels, and some not so great.
The Fairmont Copacabana is simply the best hotel in Rio at this point. Their location is impossible to beat, directly on Copacabana Beach, but also only a few steps away from Ipanema. Most properties in Rio would simply rest on those laurels and not focus so much on service.
These guys do it all! The best location, with world class service, great food, night entertainment, and the utmost focus on hygiene during these crazy times we live in.

The room we stayed in was very comfortable, with spectacular views. It was immaculately cleaned daily.

The staff is superb. Special kudos to Mohamed at the front desk and Silvio Maurice at the Concierge counter. There was simply no problem they couldn’t solve, no request that went unanswered. A perfect 10 all around!

Though we like to try other hotels wherever we go, this will now be our home away from home in Rio.
Thank you everyone at the Fairmont for a memorable experience!

Is a gold room worth the extra? Thanks
Answer from Ken J

Generally the rooms are a little bit nicer than a superior/.executive room so I my experience it really depends on whether you spend a bunch of time in the “gold floor lounge”. This is a stunning hotel and the poolside bar and restaurant is exceptionally a place to hang out so I wouldn’t have used the gold floor lounge at this property. Accor really looks after us so we were upgraded to a suite for the extra space (we travel with two kids) and using the terrific amenity of the hotel and the beachside designated guest area worked out much better. So personally I’d save the extra money and spend it on yourselves on the beach or by the poolside. The superior/executive rooms are just fine.
