It was our last city during our trip around the world and we enjoyed it very much. Thanks to the host who spoke dutch!!! The pool is wonderful and Santa Teresa is a good venue not far from the center and close to perfect bars and restaurants.

Villa Laurinda is a very nice guest house with a friendly staff. The tips they gave me about Santa Teresa and the main sights of Rio de Janeiro were essential for me to make the best of my trip. The house itself is comfortable and pleasant in a small beautiful green park. I intend to return next year!

Arriving at the Villa Laurinda late at night was somewhat disorientating, as the taxi just went further and further up into the unknown of Rio. We need not have worried however, as the welcome from the staff and pair of Rhodesian Ridgebacks who had all stayed up, was warm and reassuring. After a great night's sleep in a wonderfully idiosyncratic...

This is our second trip to Rio and we were surprised by this neighborhood full of culture. Congratulations to Villa Laurinda for the delicious breakfast and the attention of managers. The house from 1888 is very well preserved and has a very good pool. We recommend to all.

Tourists researching a trip to Brazil can be inundated with images of poverty juxtaposed with scenes of magnificent beaches and breathtaking landscapes. Rio is a complex city of hybrid social interactions. In the neighborhood Villa Laurinda is located, Santa Teresa, these vibrant cultural relations conflate to form a lively, historic and scenic quarter. Although Santa Teresa lies within the perimeters...

We stayed at Villa Laurinda in August and can't recommend it enough. Before traveling to Rio, we were not sure about staying in Santa Teresa, but it turned out that neighbourhood was great, quite artistic, with cobbled streets, nice bars and restaurants, even though it's in the middle of Rio. This place made our trip even more special. It's got...

We stayed at Villa Laurinda just for one night at the end of our Brasil trip. the B and B we stayed at at the beginning of the trip couldn't accommodate us and suggested Villa Laurinda. First of all, there is the location: Santa Teresa is a very nice area, on the hills in the middle of Rio, lots of character, plenty of old buildings, bars and restaurant and good connections with other areas of Rio by bus, taxi, subway and the old tramway called "Bonde". Then the Villa Laurinda: it is a stunning old villa...

This is a fantastic place to stay. The people are wonderful and made us feel at home. We were a group of photographers and rented the whole house for nearly 2 weeks. A group of 8 photographers were in RIO to conduct a workshop, and photograph the Homeless World Cup in Copacabana. None of us knew anything about the Villa Laurinda other than by the internet, and what a great choice it happened to be. Rather than a big fancy beach-front hotel, this is a gorgeous villa - a large colonial house...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
