Vila Carioca is situated in a lovely cul-de-sac in Botafogo (very close to the metro). Breakfast was simple but good and the common areas are really nice. We had a private room in the loft. It didn't have windows, just shutters. The air conditioning didn't work and the mattress seemed to be made of marshmallows. I woke up with a...

The place is well located in Botafogo and there are many restaurant outdoor places nearby. The metro is about 5 min away. The place felt and looked older and more dirty that other hostels I have been in. The place is colorful and artistic. The common areas are okay. Maybe a bit small for the amount of people staying there....

Vila Carioca is a very cheap option to stay a few days in Rio. Its very well located (2 blocks from metro Botafogo) and the área is quite safe and full of nice restaurants. The sugar loaf is within walking distance :) As to the hostel itself, they have made quite an effort to design the inside nicely with quite...

We stayed three nights in Vila Carioca and we really liked the place. We slept in de 6-bed-dorm, with shared bathroom. The women bathroom is a bit small and wasn't always that clean, but it was okay. the kitchen is well equiped, you easily can cook somethings yourself! The breakfast is great, as is the help and kind ness of...

staff is friendly (thanks for all the help/advice francesco) beds were not good (plastic covers over the matrass) the breakfast was good wifi connection was poor (no connection in the rooms) But the most annoying thing were the bugs in the ground level, eating away your ankles. I had scratched myself so hard my ankles were bleeding. Apparently it was...

It was one of the best experience I had in Rio. Staff is great, breakfast is great and location is great. Hosts are open minded and most of them capoeira masters. The Staff is very helpful as they can speak several languages. breakfast is amazing, with fruit, cereals, home-made cakes. Clarice, makes everyday amazing puddings. Ask her to make the...

Very nice hostel with nice decorations and a home-feeling, comfortable beds, spacy dorms with lockers, nice lounge garden and good breakfast! Staff was very helpful and friendly, only flaw was that the bedrooms did not get cleaned very often, the bathrooms were very clean though

We walked in and automatically got a good vibe from this place. We stayed over Carnaval, so the place was packed! We were in a fifteen bed dorm, with triple bunks, the beds were a bit shifty and you felt like you were going to fall off getting to the top one. There was no AC and it was stinking...

The main and only adventage of this hostel is its location. Safe neighbourhood. Close to subway station and big (and cheap!!) supermaket. We spend there about 7 nights. Hostel stuff was helpfull and nice. Rooms very tiny, cleanless poor. Thing that surprised me the most about this place is fact that they have limited Wi-fi an AC!!! Air conditioning is...

Neighbourhood Profile
Botafogo
In recent years, Botafogo has become one of the hottest neighbourhoods in Rio. It hosts many modern restaurants with contemporary food and many venues to listen to rock and electronic music. Its numerous bars and pubs make this area a great choice for anyone interested in a great nightlife experience - in fact, some bars in the area are open all night. Casa Daros, an art museum that showcases amazing artists from Latin America, is a must see located in a historical building in Botafogo.
