First off, this is a party hostel that attracts a young crowd. I actually felt like i was back in college, staying at a dorm and partying with friends all night. having said that, it's not for everyone. If you want peace and quiet and if you think you are too old for stuff like that, I advise you to...

I can't say enough good things about this place. Great breakfast, party atmosphere, good common areas, a kitchen and good bar! The hostel owner is definitely what makes this place what it is! He makes a huge effort to learn your name, he chats to everyone and is so helpful. Thankyou for a great time in Lapa, Felipe.

Books is a total diamond in the rough, Lapa may seem overwhelming, but the staff will take you under their wing. It's an excellent location to get to any major tourist attractions, but the real draw is the staff and the atmosphere. You'll get parties, down time, beers with locals and experience the true side of Rio. Look at for...

I recommend this hostel to everyone, especially solo travellers as it is the perfect place to meet people and make friends. Very sociable and definitely a party hostel in the heart of lapa. Great location, loved staying here as opposed to touristy Copacabana beach. The staff are all great, very friendly and helpful, and Filipe the owner is the best!...

If you are looking to party and meet new people, then stay at this hostel. If you are looking for a more quiet hostel with clean rooms then I would not stay here. There wasn´t any hot water when we stayed there our 3 nights. There was a bar outside which sold cheap and good drinks, but it is of...

Really lively hostel with lots of young travellers. The rooms and bathrooms are fairly clean There are lockers, wifi, a TV room with netflix and an outside area with a bar as well as a kitchen. The people who ran the hostel were all lovely. It's really lively and in the evening everyone comes together and drinks in the hostel...

The hostel itself is ok good party scene but the way girls are treated by the owner is horrible. I would not recommend any girls go here unless you want to be given inappropriate and rude comments. I would never stay here again! All the other workers were great and provided a great atmosphere.

I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone travelling through Rio. Felipe makes everyone feel at home within his hostel. The place has a great atmosphere and it's a great place to meet people with lots of communal areas to socialise. A home away from home.

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
