We only had one night, and we had to find a place quickly. Trusting Lonely Planet, we came here to stay overnight. By the time we left, we agreed that it was the worst hotel stay we had ever had. We shared our room with several cockroaches and at least one rat. Two cockroaches died in our bathroom, which made...

During January 2012 I spent 7 happy days staying in the calm oasis that is Manila's "Malate Pensionne". I had second floor "De-Luxe" double room Number 457, from which I was able to access the Free WiFi from the cafe/bar next door ! My quiet room also had A/C, satellite TV and endless hot water. The staff at Malate Pensionne...

If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay that is relatively close to the airport and Manila Bay, then Malate Pensionne is a good choice. My family and I have stayed here many times over the years, and the staff has always been friendly and courteous. They work hard to keep it as clean as they can, and...

My wife & I stayed for a week. the staff was very solicitous & helpful. We had checked other pensions in the area prior to this and Malate Pensionne had the ambiance of days gone by. Even with the renovation going on, it maintained it's feel of warmth & hominess. We stayed in a family room which included cable TV,...

We needed a place to stay in Manila at the start and end of our trip & booked a fan 3 bed room (bunk beds and a single) for P1050. It was simple and nearish to the airport but the nightlife on the street out front was a red light district with trannies and hookers offering their services at every...

This place makes me feel the past. The ambiance was great. The staffs were very good. Even though the rooms are not that beautiful, you can sleep at ease.

Cheap rooms but crappy. We booked a double fan room (shared bathroom). Room is not very well looked after and bed was very uncomfortable. The mattress was so old that I got so scared of checking it thoroughly just in case some creepy crawlies would come out of its nest. The bathroom was so small with no place to put...

Decent budget rooms with a sense of history, reliable reservations system, friendly staff. The construction site next door is a pain. Given there's a shortage of low budget accomodation in Manila, this is one of the best choices. Book well ahead!

During my booking I arranged airport pickup. Usually that´s cheaper than flagging down a taxi at the airport. This time it wasn´t: They charged me 500 pesos for one way - a taxi would MAX cost 200 pesos, if not less. The building itself is under construction at the moment, so you´ll be woken up by drill or saw sounds...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Malate Pensionne is located in the heart of Malate, a district of Manila on Adriatico St. (formerly Dakota St under the US Commonwealth & Calle Nuevo under Spain). Our building was built by Americans who leased the land from our grandfather to house American workers. When the lease ended, our mother turned it into Dakota Apts. Returning from her European trips & learning of how Italians welcomed weary travelers to their home like family members, she turned Dakota Apts into Malate Valero Pensionne, now well know as the Malate Pensionne with the slogan, "Your home away from Home". As far as we know, we are the only hotel in the world with a strict policy of only registered guests can walk our hallways. We are about a mile from the US Embassy & Rizal Park. About 2 miles from Intramuros, the old walled city of Manila, a 5 min. walk to Robinson Mall. 15 min. by car to Mall Of Asia & 11.5km to the upscale Makati City & Bonifacio Global City. Mabuhay, Bienvenido, Welcome to your "home away from home". ... more   less
