Great location close to the sea front and many of the tourist attractions (Glover Gdns., Hollander Slope, Oura Cathedral, etc). Easy tram ride to/from both the JR station and to the tourist attractions in the north of the city (Peace Park, etc.). Clean and comfortable rooms and efficient front of house staff. Would certainly stay here again.

Although the hotel is a bit far from Nagasaki station, I really liked the hotel location. The hotel is very close to Glover's Garden, Oura church, the China Town, and also walking distance to the wharf. As I stayed there by myself this time, I chose a single room for one night. The room was very neat, bed was big...

The hotel is not centrally located but we new this when booking it so not a surprise. It was though more hassle to reach it than we thought. It's got a nice Portuguese colonial decor and atmosphere, no doubt about it. It travels you to Portugal than Japan and this was nice too. I found though our room very small....

We were in Nagasaki for three days, and this hotel was a good basis to start our day trips. It was close to the street car stop (3 minute walk). The hotel itself is clean, has wi-fi, and the breakfast was good. I missed the onsen facility many other hotels have, but the shower (although small, as usual for Japanese...

We enjoyed our stay here. It's in a great location to walk to many of the tourist sites. Close to street car line. Rooms are clean and neat - we liked the tile floors. Most importantly the staff is warm, friendly, and accommodating. I do not recommend eating breakfast at the hotel. It is very expensive and not that good....

Booked two rooms here at the last minute in Golden week so was not expecting it to be the best of the bunch. The hotel is pitched as being in the Portuguese style and overlooking the harbour, whilst being on the right side of the city to be walking distance to two attractions that we wanted to squeeze in during...

Smallish hotel with an Iberian theme. Rooms comfortable with decent size bathroom. Staff very helpful with good English. Streetcar stop about 200m away and the boarding for the Battleship Island trip just across the road. (Gunkanshima Concierge) Breakfast the usual Japanese buffet with enough to get started but also a great little patisserie just 50 m down the street.

This hotel is near some attractions and you can either take the trams or a taxi. We took the taxi because we had lots of luggage. It cost about Y800 from the train station. The rooms are quite big like traditional western hotels are. Well, the hotel itself looks very western as it's designed to look like one. And it's...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Monterey Nagasaki, located close to the sea, emulates the atmosphere and decor reminiscent of the time when the sea-faring voyagers arrived from Portugal, in an ongoing connection with Nagasaki that dates back to 1543. We promise to deliver a cozy experience where guests can feel part of the story and history of Nagasaki, imagining they are part of a scene from many years ago where the alleyways were illuminated by the rays of the sun and chance encounters with foreign traders were commonplace. The walls are adorned with blue tiles, expertly painted by Portuguese craftsmen, providing a colorful atmosphere. ... more   less
