Stayed at The Screen for 3 nights in a nicely designed very large room with spacious living and sleeping areas. We were tickled to see our room looked out over a shrine located just across the street in one direction and the tops of the trees in the Imperial Park that was home to several large cranes in the other...

We stayed in a suite at The Screen Hotel for 3 days. We had stayed in Gion for 3 days first -- in order to taste the old part of the city. Then, we moved to The Screen in order to be closer to the other good part of the city. The suite is large enough and great. The people...

We were horrified when we saw our room...all in black with minor use of very dark brown. My first thought was "where is the window" and expected the screens to slide away to reveal one. They didn't. The only window was a small one opening onto a small internal grey stone clad area. It was well away from the living...

The screen hotel is not your usual hotel. If you want boring standard rooms go somewhere else. We stayed in #403 the London Fog room. Its all white curtains and white everything. Once we worked out that it was too early in the year for the AC to be on, we just turned off the heating and the room stayed...

The Screen is a very modern small boutique hotel. Arriving at The Screen was a delight. The reception staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was delightful with a comfortable sitting area, sleeping area behind beautifully decorated sliding screens and a lovely en suite. We didn't take breakfast in the hotel as there was a lovely Pain Quotidien just...

The space is big but maybe too modern design or kind of mixed style. I like the big space but a lot of them in black color which I am a little bit not used to. The room in the beginning feels like inside the basement. The front door looks like a fire drill door and the walking hall is...

We had 2 rooms booked at the Screen for a family and the hotel was excellent for its location, the quality of the staff (who agreed to change one of the room as we wished one on higher floors) and overall the atmosphere. The hotel design is not always exactly pragmatic, but for a boutique hotel i totally accept that....

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at The Screen and we are so happy we found this hotel! It's in an adorable neighborhood with tons of shops, cafes and restaurants, a few minutes from major bus lines and a train line, walking distance from the Imperial Palace and within a 20 minute walk to Pontocho Alley (an area...

Agree with many of the reviews, staff friendly and helpful but overall just slightly weird and maybe just too edgy or do I really mean black? Black corridors, black room and if you actually want to walk round the bed, don't choose 203. If just one metre of the toilet had been committed to the gap between wall mounted TV,...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
