This is a HUGE hostel, that spans across two buildings. I stayed in a four bed girls only room, which was very small but cozy. The lockers allowed for each traveler are HUGE and held all my bags easily. The floor I stayed on had three shower rooms, three toilets and four sinks. For the amount of people on the... More

Upsides - K's House is overall very clean and welcoming. - The location is great - short walk to Kyoto Station, close to Marts, great little bar joined to it. - friendly and helpful staff. Downsides - I was in a large group and although the common room is a decent size, it was very quiet so we felt quite... More

I spent 3 days at K's House Kyoto while I traveled around Kyoto and surrounding city. The staff is absolutely amazing and really know how to run a hostel. The hostel is close to the subway as well as Kyoto Station which will easily connect you to the rest of Japan! If you're looking for a great budget spot in... More

We have stayed in a double room for 4 nights. This hostel is very well located. 10/15 minutes from the train and bus station, which is very convenient for all the temple sightseeing. We have also managed to walk to Gion and Downtown from here. It is a pleasant 20 minute walk. If you like walking like us, this hostel... More

As for the title the hostel is great, nice common areas and very livable rooms. Room cleaned every day. The bar at the first floor is a nice add to the structure, u can have a drink for a cheap price. All the common areas are super clean, soap and shampoo offered in the showers. The only (big) down I... More

Excellent stay! The place is clean and is a close walk from Kyoto Station. The staff was very friendly, spoke great English, and was able to help with any questions. Common area was nice and roomy which is a bit more rare in Japan.

I stayed in a much smaller hostel in Tokyo so was surprised at the number of guests staying here. It is almost like a small hotel. However I didn't feel any effect of this such as having to wait for showers, table in hang out area or waiting for service in reception. As other travellers have mentioned yes they do... More

We have stayed there for 3 days. The staffs are wonderful. They provided us with good information about getting around Kyoto city.. They can speak English well too. The bedroom that we stay are double decked. However the blanket are a bit dusty with fiber flying around when you shake them. The location is near to a 24hr food stall.... More

This is a nice place to stay in Kyoto although there were many tourists when we went there so their lobby is jam packed. There's a small restaurant/bar beside their hostel so you can eat there if you don't feel like going out. There's a nearby bus stop and Kyoto Station is just walking distance although I wouldn't recommend walking... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
