Stayed at this hotel on 09 November 2014 for one night. It was the only hotel and room available around the Kyoto Station vicinity. The room was pathetically small with just a double bed against one side of the wall. There is an attached bathroom/toilet but no wardrobe. The room was shared by 2 adults and 1 child. We had...

The hotel was great, it was clean and the wifi was not spotty at all unlike other hotels, the location was also convenient. The only thing is that the room was super super tiny, but expected as visiting Japan.

We wanted a hotel near the station but did not want to pay the prices of those hotels. This one was perfect for what we wanted, and was in our budget. The double bed was small, and one side was against the wall which made it a challenge to get out of during the night! Our bed was not made...

Kyoto was a blast but all the tour trips, entrance fees to temples and sites, gifts and food started to add up. My host found this place online whilst we were touring the city and booked it for a lot less than usual. The price was concerning as neither of us had ever been to the hotel before, we didn't...

The reasons and needs in which I booked this hotel where perfect for me. The price was very affordable and helped me keep a budget without sacrificing much. Yes my room was tiny but I was traveling by myself and didn't need much space. This hotel is right across Kyoto station on the Kyoto tower side and this was most...

Fantastic value for money. We could only take one of their (even) smaller rooms, however has everything you would need. Very effectively designed ( Japanese efficiency!) and 2 minutes from Kyoto main station. If you are looking for a short stay and not spending long in the room, book it!

Friendly staff, super tiny but clean rooms very convenient for the train station, good if you only plan on using it as a base as the lobby is tiny too. Breakfast is fine, if not a little unusual in some parts (unless you happen to be Japanese, I assume,).

Hotel is just five minutes from Kyoto station. Rooms are small so you don't want to hang around the hotel too much but everything is efficient, it is not expensive and is an excellent base to explore Kyoto. Laundry is available along with a vending machine and an in room fridge. Shower is very good and staff were very pleasant...

We stayed in this hotel on our honeymoon mainly because it fit our price bracket during a long stay. The room we stayed in was extremely small (basically just a bed and a dresser) but that's to be expected at the price we paid in Japan. It's very well located near the main railway station in Kyoto. There is a...

Had a horrible experience at this hotel, and thankfully only had to spend minimal time at it. Yes the location is great, but there are many many many other hotels surrounding it. Very uncomfortable sleeping and I do understand that some hotels may shut their a/c off in the winter but as someone who comes from a much colder climate...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
