The location is good and rooms ok but the food was terrible for what this type of hotel should deliver. Room service food was extremely bland. The western options in the breakfast buffet I found to really limited and bad quality and we felt rushed as two different staff told us the breakfast would close in 20 minutes, they even...

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your...

We both travel for work several times a week and have stayed in many Westins (Sheraton and Marriotts as well). This is not a Westin quality hotel. The main lobby is pleasant but beyond it is worn out carpets, old dented and bruised furniture and wooden walls that haven't seen any stain in some time. The halls go up down...

Came to the hotel in the evening after a van ride through the dark streets of Kyoto and the reception and lobby areas and personnel were welcoming. Our room was large and had all the amenities. The view from our room was of the garden that was well kept but had yet to have the spring blooming except for the...

cannot deny that its a comfortable place to stay in However, its a bit far from the Kyoto main station definitely not within walking distance. The hotel is big .. as compared to normal Japanese standards.. Its international branding afterall. But I would prefer the smaller hotels near the train station. Cosy and more convenient

very large hotel lots of public space, geared for convention and group travel which it does well. I recognise one or two areas are looking worn at the edges but I guess fitting new carpets in some of the larger rooms cost more than my house. I spotted that the dining room had new carpet with matching wallpaper and curtains....

My mom and I did a quick stop through Kyoto on our way to Vietnam. We chose the Westin as I had SPG points that could get us a free room. If it was not for the SPG points, I would probably not stay here again, particularly as it is far from most of what you would like to see....

The Suite was beautiful, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. Hotel overall has a laid back feeling. There is a Westin Shuttle that takes you to the Kyoto Station. When we took the shuttle on our last day to get to the Kyoto station, we realized that we could have used it to get to Gion area and...

This is a good hotel in a great location.....though there are some things to consider: 1. The hotel has some 500 rooms. The huge lobby and large restaurants can be hectic when large groups are in residence. 2. The hotel was built over time with several wings added.....so the walk from the elevator can be long & a bit dismal....

Perfect location for your first visit to Kyoto. The Hotel shuttle and the neighboring underground station allow you to easily get around in kyoto. The hotel is in walking distance to the Zoo, a temple area and the philosophic walking way. It is a huge hotel with restaurants and all the amenities you can think of. International as well as...

It is probably as close to the old Japan as a westerner can get. Room is spacious with elegant simple decoration next to a bamboo and rock garden. Hotel staff is very attentive. The hotel is in a great neighborhood of old Kyoto, old houses, walking distance to all the shrines and forests. Check out the cemetery and the Chion-in...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
