Pros: - 5 min taxi ride to dining/clubs - Great breakfast buffet Cons: - Nothing much by the property, within walking distance. - Busy lobby in the morning - A lot of conventions within the property makes is crowded

We are SPG platinum so got upgraded to their 'suite' upon check in. Nice you would think. You would be wrong. The bulk of the room hadn't been touched since the 1970's. I wish I was exaggerating. You can find real vintage pieces here, from the drapes and overall decor to the furniture which has about 30 or 40 years... More

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your... More

After four years I came back to this absolute gem for Grand Tourers: the Miyako Hotel -aka the old building at the back of the Westin Hotel. I got a wonderful room once again. Full satisfaction and unchanged charm of the Miyako and its garden. I have to remark that at breakfast something seemed a bit loose. Replenishing of empty... More

Excellent service. Pajamas daily. We stayed in both the Western and the Japanese style rooms, which were clean and ample-sized. Great place for French pastries and savories down the street, Le Bac Du Sable, where we went every morning for breakfast. The hotel was close by the Philosopher's Path, which was a beautiful hike and activity see many shrines and... More

We have stayed at this hotel 10 times, we usually go to Japan twice a year and always spend some time at the Westin. I found it very difficult to get a non smoking room from Starwood and directly from the hotel. We ended up getting a non smoking room through Trip Advisor at quite a hefty tariff which did... More

This is an older hotel and from the outside does not set high expectations. However the staff is universally helpful, and most speak english fairly well. The location is ideal, with great temples, the Gion district, and Miyakomesse convention center within walking distance. The hotel provides a free bus shuttle from the train station, which is a great convenience.

The Miyako has a vintage look. Furniture and decor all bespeak another era of 5 star hotels. Yet, it is actually a little more comfortable and pleasant because of that. We stayed 4 nights in the second half of October 2016. Booked a deluxe double with garden view. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a double sized room on the... More

On arrival here WOW. Staff friendly and speaking and understanding English very well. Room clean and spacious with good views from our windows. Heaps better than our room in Shinjuku Tokyo. Unfortunately we only had 2 nights here because we were doing the Maiko Experience.

The best part of this hotel was the front of the house staff... We were always warmly greeted and no question was too bothersome for them. Our room was comfortable. I'm a Starwood Gold Member but I usually mix up my travel between all sorts of different accommodations so I kind of expect anything. That said, I was very pleased... More

Good 4 star hotel very well located. We had a large corner room with views over the mountains and the city. We even had a large balcony, but without any furniture. We asked for some chairs, which in first place was not possible. When we asked the second day, we got two lounge chairs so we could relax on the... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
