We found the location of the hotel pretty good. It was close to a subway stop and several bus stops. (Taking the bus to Kyoto station was very convenient.) The only thing we didn't like about the hotel was having to leave the key at the reception every time we went out. This was extra annoying as the reception was...

Staff were really friendly and helpful.Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, free Wi-fi,very clean and with everything you need. Complimentary water bottles everyday and a drink voucher to use during your stay were a nice touch.Location is perfect, within walking distance to Nishiki market, Pontocho and Ginza. You will find loads of restaurants and shops near by.If I'm back to Kyoto,...

Nice boutique hotel which is well located between 2 subway stations: Gojo station (5mins walk) and Karasuma Station (7mins walk). Our standard twin bedded room was spotless and surprisingly larger than the standard size rooms in Japan. However, the pillows given were a tad hard, so we requested for softer pillows at the reception. Room comes with full set of...

Once we sorted out how to use the buses in Kyoto this proved to be a pretty good location. The tourist sights are scattered to north and to east and the station for visits to Fushimi and Nara is to the south, so this central location worked pretty well with some things (like the Philosopher's Walk) within walking distance. The...

Chose this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed. We got the twins room and the beds were actually like double bed size. The room is very spacious for Japanese standard. All amenities provided. Only provides green tea and Chinese tea bags for hot drinks. 20mins walk from Kyoto station and 15 mins walk to city centre.

Based on previous reviews, I expected the rooms to be tiny, but that wasn't the case at all! My friend and I shared a twin room and found that we had more than enough space for the two of us. It is about a 20 minute walk to Kyoto station, which was a little hard after walking around all day,...

The location of this hotel is quite convenient, appr. walk time to CBD about 20 minutes. The staff is very nice and polite and helpful. One has to go up to the second floor of the hotel vie the side of the building to get to the hotel lobby for check-in. (a little unusual) The hotel and room are very...

Desk staff were friendly and helpful. Triple room was clean and comfortable. It was especially good to have the toilet and shower/bath completely separate, on opposite sides of the room. Very convenient location; lots of restaurants in the area, and a short walk and 1 subway stop from Kyoto Station.

Stayed in this nice hotel while our visit in Kyoto with my husband. Everything was clean, location is great, staff was very friendly. Staff gave really good and easy to follow instructions to get to Arashiyama from the close by station. Japanese breakfast was also very good. I really don't have anything negative to say. As many others have said,...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
