We had stayed at the Almont hotel in Okinawa and loved it so when we were planning a trip to Kyoto, we decided to try the Almont there as well. We were in Kyoto during cherry blossom season and the hotel rates were very reasonable compared to other hotels in the city. The property is about a 5-10 minute walk...

The hotel is located two blocks from Shinkansen Kyoto Station. Very centrally located and walking distance to many attractions. The service was great and very accommodating. The rooms were small, about the size you would find in most New York hotels but very cozy. The hotel rooms have private baths but also offer a traditional bath as well. The hotel...

I've stayed at the Almont twice now! Once in 2015 and the most recent a few weeks ago. It's a nice hotel near Kyoto Station, maybe a 5-10 minute walk. My room this trip was a small double room, which is a bit small but doable for a couple. Bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the ammenties in the room:...

The hotel is literally no more than 5 minutes walk from the rail station. So it is really central. Despite this it is very quiet and there was no noise from the streets below. We didn't dine in the hotel, as we preferred going outside and tasting the real Japan. There is a Tully's café just round the corner at...

Our stay in this hotel was very enjoyable. We were treated with courtesy at all times and the staff were exceptionally helpful. The room was small but had everything we needed for our stay. It was a short distance from the rail station and bus station but was surprisingly peaceful at night. The Onsen was good with good facilities eg. a...

We had a one night trip in Kyoto and decided to stay in a hotel close by the station. The room is a bit small but good for the price. Convinient also since all taxi driver know the location right away. They have a public bath house, which is unique and open until pretty late at night.

This is a really good hotel for the price. The rooms are spacious for Japan. Breakfast was included for us and it was really good on both western and Japanese breakfast. The hotel is in a great location for accessing Kyoto station and sightseeing. It is not really walking distance to the gion. We caught the bus or a taxi...

Short distance from the Kyoto Station, take the south exit (or they call it the Hachijo East exit). Although most of the Kyoto attractions are on the north side of the station, This hotel is nice and quiet with windows that you can actually look out. Clean and comfortable, breakfast not included but is offered near the lobby or you...

It is not hard to find, but about 10 minutes walk with luggage. It is not the cheapest in the area but a comfortable option with onsen and breakfast was great with options. Choose this option because I was traveling with my mum and she enjoyed it.

Well priced hotel close to Kyoto railway station. Great spring board to all the delights of Kyoto. Great breakfast and very clean rooms of a reasonable size for Japan. Staff are very helpful. Many well priced restaurants within walking distance. Recommended.

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
