Unfortunatly I had to spend 4 nights in this hotel. The room was very dirty and staff was crude. The hotel is located on a main road and noise from trucks passing by was unbarable. Worst hostel I have been in in Japan.

We booked our stay with Seiki Ryokan 2 months prior to our trip there, after arriving by train from Tokyo to Kyoto, we turned up at the ryokan only to be told that our reservations had been cancelled! apparently the owner had received a call, and had mistakenly assumed it was us cancelling our reservations. initially we were told that...

I travel with 2 friends (3 ladies). The room and attached bathroom size is "just nice" for us. With this price at this location, we accepted this deal. about 5 minutes walk (we walked slow) from the main JR Station, very convenient! I will recommend this to people who just want a place to bath and rest, and with not...

Turned out we were going to Kyoto for a week during fall foliage season - I was having a lot of trouble finding rooms, so I settled on this because they had 6 nights available. The day after we arrived we were in the tourist information office and another couple was getting put in dorm space for the same price...

I'm in two minds about this place. First off lets point out that it's fairly cheap, it's close to the station, and it solved the problem for us of how to accommodate a family of four at an affordable price. We stayed on the 5th floor, with 2 bedrooms, a toilet, shower, bath. As a Japanese ryokan, you get mattresses...

Basic but very clean. Handy to station and shops. Quiet. Host even drove us to Kyoto Station, with luggage, as it was raining. Staying again October 2006.

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
