It's very pretty & has an authentic japanese feel to it. I believe it might be family run. Easy to get to by bus, but there is NOTHING around the ryokan. We walked around the area looking for food but there weren't any. There were only 2 convenience stores (family mart & something else). Ended up eating at the ryokan...

Nice ryokan outside the city. The rooms were traditional, but the house itself was not like the pictures. The ryokan is located next to a beautiful mountain, but the main house is on the sidewalk of a traficated road. The bus takes about 30 minutes from Kyoto station and leaves every half an hour/hour. We were there around new years...

Quite an affordable Ryokan at the edge of town. I find it weird that some users a promoting this to be close to the center: be wary, it's not! It takes around 30 minutes on bus to reach the railway station. Don't get me wrong, the location is not bad at all: it's a very quiet area of the town,...

Finding this Ryokan is actually very easy, just take the bus Nr. JR 3 from Kyoto station and get out at Takahana-cho. Then just follow the sign. One way fare is 220 ¥ but you can look for a access description as well on their website. Unfortunatly I had a room with windows showing me just the parking lot. But...

We arrived around 7p.m. on a Saturday evening. The restaurant had a small selection of authentic Japanese dishes. Everything we tried was delicious! The rooms are basic, but very clean and comfortable. The staff is very welcoming and made our stay even more enjoyable. If you are looking for an authentic, affordable Japanese inn then this is a great place...

I must say that this accomodation is located in a good place. It is close to Ninnaji, Ryoanji (stone garden) that is the part of Myoshinji Temple Complex, Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) and Kozanji. All mentioned above temples and Kinkakuji are in the UNESCO Heritage list (!). Well, it will take 15 min by walk to Ninnaji and more - to...

Even the location is far from town around 30min by bus (I know that before booking) though I really impressed stay here.. So quited and clean. Very good service and friendly owner. You could never find a superior Ryokan at this price (4,200 JPY/night). Food in their saperated restaurant is very good taste (with high price). It suitable for 1st...

It's really nice ryokan to stayed even though it's quite far but i think it worth the trip. I went with my mum, just the 2 of us. The staffs were really nice and I loveee the food in their restaurant! I'm definitely going backkkk. This ryokan is located near all of the temples, also if you want to go...

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
