There are a number of good things about the Nikko Princess: location, comfortable beds, decent breakfast and staff who can speak some English. But for a luxury hotel, the Nikko Princess is a very sad place, overdue for a total renovation. The lobby feels like 1980 and the rooms do too. Furniture is old, carpet and drapes too. The room...

This is a beautiful hotel tucked away on a quiet street, just off one of the main roads in Kyoto. Staff was very helpful and welcoming. Our room was spacious and comfortable. There is a breakfast buffet available offering both western and japanese foods. The hotel is withing an easy walk to subway and train stations as well as local...

Tucked away in suburban Kyoto, the Nikko Princess hotel is very well located; walking distance from the cycle rental (J-Cycle), the Lawson convenience store, and the high street. The rooms are a bit small, though, and the toilet's instructions are written in Japanese, though, so I had to experiment with the buttons on the toilet to figure out how they...

We stayed at the Nikko princess Kyoto for 6 nights. Our Room 1111 was really big and has an amazing view over Kyoto. It was very clean and bed was comfortable.. the breackfast in the lobby was correct, which was a combination of asian and western food. Overall we had an excelent stay and if we go back Kyoto we...

The room was quite spacious, with two double beds. Very well-equipped with places to charge electronics. The bath was extraordinary, with a large separate space that had a soaking tub and shower. It was almost like having a private onsen. An in-room Japanese massage (Shiatsu) cost about the same as a spa massage would have cost in many US cities....

Spend 5 nighs in the hotel. Location is perfect, a very nice and comfortable walking distance for the main street and the Nishiki Market, as well as other bars and restaurants (a very good Italian restaurant is a block away if you feel like western food for a change one day - Goichi Pizza - Best Carbonara ever even in...

Extremely not happy with the UNPROFESSIONAL AND NOT HELPFUL personnel by the name of MEHMET. Should not be placed at Front-of-the House area. Not smiling and UNwilling to answer or providing in-house facilities when queries. Ask to refer to Concierge which she is not good in English. Destroying our family mood.

Was only booked in for one night and, after reading some luke warm reviews, the hotel actually exceeded my expectations! The room was huge and had a great view looking out over eastern Kyoto! Every amenity was offered (razor, toothbrush/paste, pajamas, even a facial mask). The bed was very comfortable and the room was posh and clean. The staff were...

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here! The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was a dream. I wish I knew where they sell their shampoo and conditioner because it smelled so good! Anyway, our stay was short and magical. Great place to stay in Kyoto if you are visiting.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
