Please don't get fooled by the good reviews for this hotel. If you look most are due to location. However please pay attention to the bad bed reviews and the size/quality of rooms. I have stayed at many hotels all over Japan, several in Kyoto itself and have never experienced the torture provided by the hardness of these beds. Yes,...

The room was tiny and others in our group had even smaller rooms. There has to be something better in Kyoto. Location was nice near the underground mall and the river. But that is about it. The hotel did not turn on the AC while we were there in April and it was too hot not to have AC. Plus...

My first time to Kyoto and we chose this place because it is in city centre and just 2 minutes walk from metro station. And also walking distance to shopping area Room is not big, it may be due to additional bed added. But the room is comfortable and not noisy at night even our room is facing main Street....

Yes it is true - the bed in room 932 has to be 8 feet wide! However, this is around about the same size as the room itself. So it is challenging to find space for your suitcase. Otherwise the hotel is in a good location and the breakfast buffet is pretty good too.

This hotel is very busy but the staff were very helpful and friendly. It is well placed for some sights and there are lots of shops and restaurants around. Across the road is the entrance to "Zest" an underground shopping arcade that then leads on to the covered streets so if it is raining you can walk a very long...

Dear AlanNowill, Thank you for your generous comments concerning your recent stay at our hotel. We are thankful that you appreciated our location. We also appreciate the fact that you enjoyed Zen Lunch. We are happy it is getting popular. We are disappointed to read that air conditioning is not comfortable enough. In general Japanese hotels have a two season...

Rooms are small. Double glazing in effective at keeping noise out. Breakfast best described as a works canteen or motorway service station. dishes constantly running out and staff slow to replenish. Breakfast uninspiring. But the location is perhaps the best location in Kyoto to visit all the sights.

We stayed here for 3 nights in total with a break in between. The staff are excellent as is the breakfast. The main problem is the size of the bedrooms although clean and modern they are very small - our second room my wife could not get out on her side of the bed. The hotel is well situated near...

The best thing about the hotel is its location. Its close to the metro & bus lines as well as being close to a Tourist Information Centre, restaturants, bars and shopping areas. The hotel gets a lot of tour groups so be prepared to wait in line. The bar is quite nice and made a nice fish n chips for...

The best thing about this large hotel is it's location, near to the centre of Kyoto and not far away from the main train stations. The staff were pleasant and helpful, as well, although the breakfast choice was not very extensive. However, the cost was to my mind exorbitant for the very small rooms and bathroom - 24,000 yen, or...

Dear Robin, Thank you for your comments concerning your recent stay at our hotel. We are happy to read that you enjoyed our location but that you were disappointed with the price you had to pay. This hotel is well situated a short bus, train or taxi ride from the main station. Hotel staff were helpful and showed us how to navigate the buses. There are several stops opposite/outside and for 230 yen one way, you can get to most major attractions without much ado. Breakfast was a varied and tasty buffet. Great coffee. Laundry available....

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
