Hotel Alpha Kyoto was in a fantastic location. Super close to the subway, City Hall, a million restaurants and shops, and a stones throw away from the river walk. They give you free tea/coffee and free wifi and an internet station in the lobby. The carpet and blanket werent overly clean, but aside from that our stay was fine. We...

We are just returned from 5 days in Kyoto at the Hotel Alpha. We were having a difficult time finding anywhere in Kyoto due to the time of year pairing w/ the cherry blossom bloom (Sakura). Alpha is not a particularly cheap accommodation, however, its location and helpful staff make it a recommendation. We ended up paying about $650 US...

Thankfully, we only booked one night at Hotel Alpha. There was mold on the shower curtain and the ceiling of the bathroom. I guess we should have guessed that it wasn't going to be pleasant when we found a bottle of "fabric refresher" among the room "amenities". The carpet was dirty and stained. The final straw for me was finding...

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. The room was smelly. The bathroom smelled like mold, and the windows couldn't be opened. The blanket and the carpet were dirty. Overall, the location is great, but every night we didn't want to come back to our room.

I wish their towels were cleaner, carpet were neater. But knowing how annal Japanese are, I somewhat just believed they've cleaned it to the best they could (and a pair of flipflop helps). The location is unbeatable. I chose this place in order to have a shorter walk to the view of bonfire in Summer festival. The market right around...

I read the reviews on Trip Advisor and thought that I would be getting a great deal on a clean, small hotel in the heart of Kyoto. Well, it is small and in a great location but it was certainly not clean. After requesting a non-smoking room (my wife has asthma) I was told there were none available upon arrival....

Stayed here for 5 days while we visited Kyoto and Nara. Rooms are small by American standards but were adequate for 3 adult family members in 1 room for sleeping arrangements. Hotel was very CLEAN AND SAFE, front desk personnel were very helpful with directions and needs, English was spoken here, and location was only 1/2 block from subway and...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
