My friends and I had a great time staying at Tour Club. Besides the cozy atmosphere of the hotel, we were so impressed with the English-speaking staff's hospitality. If we have a chance to revisit Kyoto, we will stay at Tour Club again for sure.

I decided to write a review for this hostel right after spending 3 nights there, but got time to do this only after 4 months :p It has a good location. Although it took time to find it for the first time, it is actually very near to the JR station. Clean and cozy place, and I saw many people...

Great location and price, but most of all the staff are extremely helpful in navigating all there is to see and do in Kyoto. They helped me decide what temples to see, where to go at night, and even called a restaurant to deliver dinner one night when I was sick! Very nice and helpful people with great English.

Tour Club can't be beat for its obvious advantages of location and price. However, it is much more than that. It is a great combination of hostel and ryokan (Japanese style guest house), has incredibly dedicated and flexible staff, and creates a wonderful atmosphere for travelers from all over to gather. I have been a regular since 2007 and will...

We had a 4 day stay in Kyoto and were immensely pleased with Tour Club -- it was the near-perfect Japanese hostel experience. It is easily walkable (even with luggage) from the Kyoto train station, it was super clean, quiet, and the free sake was nice. We were in a double room which includes mat floors, fold-up futon beds, and...

I had a great experience with Tour Club. The staff are really friendly, informative and helpful. The hostel itself was clean, well structured and most importantly in the cold March weather-their central heating system was excellent. I also like the fact that the dorms are not so huge with a max of 4 people staying in one room, there are...

I stay at here about 4 night. The living condition is excellent. It's quiet at night but it is close to Kyoto station (just 8 minutes walk). It is very easy to find the location. The staff is very kindness. I learn a lot about human affair about the japanese. The room is clean as same as five star hotel....

We stayed here during off peak season and it was good. We got a private room which we thought was really quite spacious compared to usual budget accomodations. We slept in tatami mats with comfy beddings. They also provided LCD tv's with japanese chanels only but you can just hook up your dvd player if you really want to watch....

Thank independencia

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a hostel, please do not expect luxury. Our ensuite are small and without daily-maid because we focused on providing basic ensuite rooms for the price of youth hostel dormitories in Kyoto. We offer cheaper dormitory too. If you need more than the basics, we cannot meet your needs. However, we provide best value for money, such as zen garden, Japanese lounge, free kimono-try, wifi and information book. ... more   less
