A very orderly, aesthetically pleasing and helpful place. Nice rooms, attentive staff and good position in the city. Lots of English speaking staff which is always a plus in Japan. Price-wise, it's competitive. Recommended!

Stayed for 2 nights. Rooms are of reasonable size with all the usual amenities including the heated toilet seat. Breakfast was very good and not too crowded. Several restaurants and convenience shops close by.Very good tasteful souvenir shop in the hotel lobby.

Modern hotel in good location for sightseeing. Refurbished rooms are very good indeed, we had one on 8th floor overlooking the temple. The staff were excellent and the breakfast the best we had in our trip. The shuttle bus back and forth from the station was invaluable.

One very useful point in favour of this hotel is the free shuttle bus to the airport which runes every 15minutes for most of the day, 30 minutes at less popular times. The station has so much more than trains, with many shops and restaurants and good views from the skywalk. The hotel rooms are larger than in many Japanese...

Stayed for 3 nights here as part of tour and really loved the hotel - it was smart, modern, in a great location with bus stop nearby and only 5/10 minutes' ride to the station on the frequent, free hotel shuttle. All the staff were lovely and the rooms were much bigger than expected, with all modern conveniences - including...

The rooms were well appointed and quiet. The staff were very polite and helpful. Forecourt staff particularly helpful organising taxis. Excellent location and within walking distance of many local attractions.

My family of four stayed here for six nights. We wanted to stay in a Hilton or Four Season but they were all booked. This hotel caters mostly to Asians but there were a few Americans staying there while we were there. We stayed in one large room with four beds. The only people who speak English are the front...

We decided to visit Kyoto last minute to see the Cherry Blossoms in full bloom and our travel agent found this hotel. We liked the location as it is in the center of Kyoto and enabled us over 5 nights to do day trips to Nara and Osaka besides seeing Eastern, Southern and Western Kyoto over 3 days. When we...

This hotel was part of the bullet train and hotel Kyoto package. It's a very nice hotel with non-smoking rooms available. There is no pool, but there is a workout facility, if you still have the energy after exploring Kyoto for the day. It's in a great location and the hotel offers a free shuttle service every 20 minutes to...

We stayed here for 3 nights. The room cleanliness is much to be desired and is surprisingly low against the usual high standards found elsewhere in Japan. We booked ourselves into a non smoking room. Unfortunately, despite the non smoking signs on each room door on our floor, our floor smells like an ashtray...reeking of stale cigarette smoke. Worst yet,...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
