We stayed at the Kyoto Tokyu Hotel for five nights in late May, 2015, and had a wonderful experience. Our room was on a secured floor, and looked out onto a parking lot. OK, so the view was not impressive. Our room was outfitted with two twin beds that were very comfortable, and there was plenty of room to store...

On Saga's tour "Land of the Rising Sun" A tour full of interest and fascination, We travelled by train to Kyoto. It's called the Thunderbird - it's "go". Kyoto, I think, must mean "queue". For food, entrance, exit and poo. We stayed at the Hotel Kyoto Tokyu. Where rooms are compact and bijou. This hotel has pretentious qualities Too few...

Is this a one-star hotel? No, not with the terrific English-speaking concierges, attentive staff, free shuttle, and beautiful common areas. But our room on the third floor -- yikes -- was terrible. It was very small, worn out, dated, lousy furniture, no dresser, and the bathroom was HORRIBLE. It was a tiny, about 5'x6'x6.5'H (raised floor for plumbing and low...

This Kyoto Tokyu hotel is not exactly in the very center of Kyoto but you can profit by the precise and effective bus network in this town to reach the places which are worth visiting. It's a modern hotel far from the traditional ancient Japan, looking more or less as a beautiful international hotel; everything is clean, the personnel is...

Kyoto Tokyou is a beautiful hotel in a convenient location in Kyoto . The service is excellent and there is a free shuttle to the central train station in Osaka. The staff was very helpful and gave us good advice as to what to see and how to get places. There are three restaurants, all expensive, but might be worth...

Beautiful Japanese styled hotel. The staff were amazing and I am grateful for the hospitality. The building has a gorgeous water features and the interiors have a charm that makes you feel that you are in vintage 50's Japan. A great shower room with tub and exquisite toiletries made the stay really special. Close to everything, I really felt I...

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Tokyu the last week of March 2017. Very nice hotel & so are the staff. We stayed in the premium double room on the 8th flr & it just had been renovated so it was nice and new. The room size was not large but enough. It was comfortable with a large...

A very orderly, aesthetically pleasing and helpful place. Nice rooms, attentive staff and good position in the city. Lots of English speaking staff which is always a plus in Japan. Price-wise, it's competitive. Recommended!

Stayed for 2 nights. Rooms are of reasonable size with all the usual amenities including the heated toilet seat. Breakfast was very good and not too crowded. Several restaurants and convenience shops close by.Very good tasteful souvenir shop in the hotel lobby.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
