I went to Kyoto to see my old friends and stayed at this hotel. It is located near Shijyo station of subway and it takes within 1mins on foot from the exit No.5. Shijyo station is the 2nd station from Kyoto station, (Kyoto->Gojyo->Shijyo) and it is convenient in terms of transferring. Besides this hotel is near bustling street named Shin-Kyogoku...

The room was quite small, but this typical in Japan. The beds were firm but comfortable and we had the best nice sleep since coming to Japan. The room of course in very clean and there is a nice size bathroom with a separate bath tub and separate shower which is great. The wifi in the room is fast, but...

Small rooms but sufficient for a minimal stay. Moved the furniture around to gain more space for luggage. Bathroom was clean and spacious. Great location, walking distance to Nishiki Market. Approximately 2 minutes from Shijo station (2 stations from Kyoto Station).

The room was clean and modern, small like most in Japan. Great plumbing. Conveniently located for shopping and seeing the sights. The beds were so hard that it was painful, even when I put 2 blankets under the sheet. The desk staff hardly spoke any English. No English TV channels. Breakfast was not included and the restaurant had very little...

We just had a one-night stopover at this hotel, so here's my remarks: The lobby is very elegant, during check-in you get offered extra free amenities and you just take what you require. The beds are very comfortable, a fridge is available. Our room had a bathtub and a japanese shower toilet. Rooms were quiet, even though they were located...

A good hotel, with great breakfast and well located, but if you're reasonable size people (not large), like us Aussies, you will find the small rooms rather constricting, especially when you have to also accommodate two suitcases.

The hotel is in a very good location but in the evening when it is cold you need to take a taxi to the geisha quarter Gion The staf is only partly good in English. Rooms are very good the breakfast is not tempting to approach

Good hotel. Reason for 4 stars is that we booked a non smoking room only to find when we got there we had a smoking room with no other option available. However, the hotel is handy for Gion district and Nishiki Market. Subway close by to get to other attractions further a field, which is easy to use and efficient....

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
