This was my second time staying in Kyoto and the Royal Park hotel did not disappoint. Very clean, modern rooms with comfortable beds. Excellent location with many shops and variety of restaurants close by. We enjoyed breakfast each day at the bakery next door. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Good free wifi included

My family stayed at the Royal Park Hotel the Kyoto in early June. We had asked our travel agent for a clean, safe hotel with a good location and English speaking staff and the Royal Park had all of these qualities. The staff was friendly and helpful and everyone we came in contact with spoke English well. Our rooms were...

The hotel is new. Modern design, comfortable rooms, perfectly located close to the river and the Gion district. Good deal for Japanese standards. The only negative is the lack of storage space in the room. They have a sister hotel in Tokyo, also quite affordable.

Yes, the rooms are on the smaller side but they are well appointed and very comfortable. The wifi is strong. All of the staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They provided a map of local restaurants, with instructions on how to find those (most!) that don't have English names. Within easy strolling distance is a canal side walkway (Pontocho-dori) packed...

This hotel turned out to be a lot better than what I was expecting and is very good value for money. The room was a bit small but there were 3 of us with a suitcase each. Right in the middle of everything with bakery and connivence store either side is great. Staff were helpful with directions to tourist attractions...

We stayed in a twin room that was tastefully decorated, comfortable and incredibly clean. The bathroom is perfect with a separate wet room to relax in after a busy day of shopping. Very knowledgeable staff-kind and professional. Got a great deal for a small boutique style hotel that you would normally pay over $300 Au per night at any other...

Great location - right in the best bit of town. Surrounded by sites within walking distance and great bars and restaurants in the evening. Rooms are small, but I think that is standard for new hotels in Japan. We were travelling with our 9 month old son. The staff organised a great cot for him and could not have been...

The location is good - walkable distance to main shopping and eating areas. Great bakery next door. Quiet, clean and stylish. Front desk staff and concierge outstanding!! Everything well taken care off. Very professional. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our four night stay here and would highly recommend this place.

This is a typical business hotel that is clean and modern, with helpful staff there to serve. The staff have a list of good restaurant recommendations. The rooms are not very large, but by comparison the bathrooms are relatively generous in size with large shower and separate bath. The bar is nice, although wine is limited to either red or...

We stayed in an amazing room, It had 2 single beds and a toilet that was separated from the bathroom by a glass door and wall. Everything was clean, modern and tidy. The price was very affordable and the hotel was easy to find located in a rather central spot. As with anywhere in Japan, I don't recommend lugging your...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
