Stayed 4 nights here. The room was nice but not huge. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a big choice of Western and Japanese items. Breakfast is what elevates this from Average to Very Good. Otherwise it is just a modern hotel, in a great location (10 mins walk from Gion, very close to Food Market, Imperial Palace and Pontochko for... More

Royal Park has a lot going for it ... location just off the Gion district, attentive staff, and quiet rooms. But the beds are rock hard, rooms are small and over furnished and the bar and restaurant are substandard. The rather unattractive carpet in our room had a large stain. Can't recommend it.

Royal Park hotel is in a great location, lots of restaurants and bars close by. Hotel itself is good. Our room was typical Japanese size, small but comfortable. Good shower in bathroom. Good selection at buffet breakfast.

This hotel is in a great location, near everything from restaurants, shops, to bus station and subway. The room is not big, but this is Japan, if you want a big room, you'll have to pay a lots more. The main thing to me is every was so clean in here. The front desk people were big help to us.... More

Stayed 3 nights at the Royal Park Hotel in Kyoto. I would highly recommend this hotel. The rooms are comfortable. The staff were very helpful. They went out of their way to help us with directions to various cultural sights. I would especially thank Brent who spent extra time helping us with recommendations of things to see and do. We... Hotel has a great position, close to shops, restaurants, etc. The foyer, reception, bar, landings & corridors are all really nicely decorated. There's a room opposite the reception desk that is the 'Art Lounge', we sat there for hours as we couldn't check into our bedroom until 14:00pm, nobody approached us to ask if we would like something to eat... I have stayed in Kyoto on no less than 12 previous visits. Finding reasonably priced hotels is always difficult in this popular city. So book in advance. This is a 3 star hotel but a gem of a find. It was much better than any other 3 star I had stayed previously. Superb location if you enjoy the tourist side... More

Hotel located near subway and bus stops. Lots of restaurants near buy and a great shopping area. Only 30 walk to Kyoto train station, but you can get the subway or a bus. Hotel room is a bit small, but really nice with comfy beds. Restaurant down stairs has really nice food. There is a get little café just outside... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
