Hostel Mundo is a small and quite old hose in a residential area in Kyoto. It's location is fine, with several bus stops nearby and several kiosks and markets in the vicinity also. It's got very friendly staff and an authentic feeling. We had a double room with tatami mats and sliding doors, which was roomy and nice, and had...

Really cosy, we stayed in the double bedroom which came with a heater as it did get chilly but overall the staff went out of their way to help us and the kitchen is great and well stocked! If you want a budge hostel which is close to the centre of Kyoto this is the one (just remember to bring...

Very affordable, only had to pay on arrival. Managers were great and assisted with maps and advice whenever needed. B type room was one of the more spacious rooms with larger packing space in the cupboards.renting a bicycle was cheap and simple from the hostel.Great place to meet locals and travellers from around the world. Will miss this place and...

Hostel Mundo is a really cool cosy place that's actually a traditional Japanese wooden house. My friend and I had the Japanese-style room with comfy bedding for three nights, after which we switched to the six-bed female-only dorm. We got a discount for the female dorm because we booked directly through the website (and probably also because it was low...

I would recommend this place for budget travelers in Kyoto. It is located in a residential area and near to main road, bus stops and local shops. The interior was very cool traditional design, like a ryokan but with cheaper rates. Shared small toilet but very clean. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Located around 10-15 minutes walk to...

Me and my husband went on backpacking trip to Kyoto, and I must said that Hostel Mundo is one of the best backpacking hostel in Kyoto! Even though the room is quite small (we opt for the Western-style bed) but for 4500 yen per night, its worth it. The service is excellent, the staff can converse in English, it has...

The hostel is 20min bus from Kyoto station and about 10min walk from Nijo castle (which I highly recommend). From the bus stop it's a 7min walk and most of it is down a straight street so it's not too hard to find. They email you great instructions when you book. The cheapest way to book for us was directly...

Hostel Mundo was a very good option for us in Kyoto. We stayed in two of there rooms, one with a western double (very small room) and one large traditional room. Both were very acceptable for what we were paying (4500 - 5500 yen). You can also high bikes for 500 yen a day which is very useful. The location...

The hostel is a traditional Kyoto home that I believe is about a century old. We had the room overlooking the garden. It was comfortable, clean and cute. Really helpful and friendly staff made our 3 nights even better. Great value! I would love to go back someday.

Staying in Nishijin District

Neighbourhood Profile
Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.

“i think they only have 1 or 2 solo rooms so book early! that said, larger rooms are probably 2 only as the place is really small. but cosy!”

“There is only a few rooms: 5 privates on the 2nd floor and a female dorm on the 1st. If you are both sexes travelling, or all male, you will need a private room, and that can accommodate 2 to 4 people. There is no other options but to email them directly and enquire, the owners speak good English and will be able to inform best on availability and options.”
