Hotel's Favourite
The highlight of this hotel for us was that they had very new, well maintained Panasonic branded power assisted bicycles.
They costs JPY1500 to rent per day however if you sign up to be an Oriental Hotel member, you get 1 day of free bicycle.
It was the best way to explore Kyoto and we thoroughly enjoyed this way of traveling and exploring Kyoto.
The rooms were no frills, simple and clean.
It is a bit of a walk to/fro the station and I’d recommend calling an Uber or taxi which would cost around JPY10k only.

After seeing the photos, we were surprised at the price and was a little skeptical about the hotel. We decided to book 3 nights as we thought it was a good deal.
Upon arrival, the staff were extremely friendly and the hotel looked exactly like the photos. The rooms were nice and clean. But above all, the staff were very helpful. Even if their English was not good, they will always try. With google translator, we had no issues. One staff member in particular went above and beyond to help us, printed out locations restaurants for us and walked out of the hotel to show us where the car park was and how to use the parking machine.
Obviously the biggest draw back to this hotel would be the location. We didn't mind the walk, Kyoto is a pleasant town and you get to sight see. Again, you do get what you pay for. Can't expect to have everything for around $100AUD. So for what we paid for and what we got, the value is extremely good.
Would highly recommend.

This hotel was booked for us by our travel agent as a more 'traditional' experience. I would say this hotel is a modern take on traditional Japanese design. The atmosphere was so peaceful and calm and beautifully appointed. Breakfast was also wonderful each morning! The service was friendly and they truly went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The location is also great, being within walking distance of transportation, great food, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. When we come back we will only stay here!

We ended up at this hotel for one night and I was glad to leave. The coin laundry was full at night so I skipped laundry that day. The room we stayed in doesn't appear to be on the website. It is japanese style with the twin "mattresses" on the floor. The twin mattress seemed to be multiple smaller cushions bound together by a fitted sheet? Past the short entryway, past the sink and into the bed area, there was a very small step that I stubbed my toe on really badly. So badly, I thought I broke my toe. The room is very small and we ended up putting our two carry-on suitcases inside the bathroom since there was a sizable ledge there.

An excellent little hotel. Perfect for a three night stay; very clean and well kept rooms, superb facilities and all the staff were very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast buffet was lovely with a wide range of local and continental foods on offer for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Located less than a 15 minute walk from the main station and a stone’s throw from a large and quite beautiful temple. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

This was a terrible hotel. There was a very strong Moldovan mildew smell throughout the hotel. There is no night restaurant only Japanese offerings at breakfast. Some staff were very rude to one of our party when she used some glasses that were in the eating area and that other staff said we were fine to use.

My mother and I selected the’Japanese’ room. What a joke. The ‘beds’ were made up of 4 cushions held together by the sheet. They were not futons. Big no no for having a Japanese experience. When I spoke to the front desk the answer I received was that the experience encouraged people to take their shoes off. There was no tatami mat. Just a vinyl wood floor.

Nice new hotel. All the service people were very nice and accommodating. Breakfast spread was good but there was no change in the menu. Breakfast area also got crowded when tour groups would all come at the same time. Rooms were nice & modern but there was lack of storage space. Nice view of Kyoto Tower at night.
Location was average. Nothing nearby. One KM walk to nearest train or bus station which is ok as long as it is not raining. Of course dragging suitcase from train/bus stations makes it inconvenient.
Overall the stay was pleasant & enjoyable.

Staff was very polite but doesn’t speak or understand any English. This is very common in Japan but makes it very hard to check in/out and get ANY recommendations. Many restaurants in the area turn you away if you are not Japanese so prepare to spend a long night wandering around looking for somewhere to eat that will let you in.

First things first: the design of the hotel from the outside to the lobby with the inner garden is stunning. Sadly the rooms are a bit more standard in their design, but they do offer some nice elements in details. If you're looking towards the inner garden you'll have to put up the normal paper blinds and then release the inner dark blinds, otherwise it will be very bright in your room. It's not really obvious that there are other blinds behind the blinds. There's a small inlet which blows in air at all times into the room. During my stay in November that air was freezing cold. Staff kindly taped it over. If you're in a normal room with beds, the cold air hits you right on the head (turning your pillow is of course an option). The breakfast was very nice, but it had no changes whatsoever during our 4 night stay, which made it quite boring after day 2. There is a convinience store close by and a family restaurant, but other than that the closest restaurants are a ten minute walk away. In exchange the hotel is in a very quite alley in a very nice old-fashioned part of town. If you can live with the mentioned small inconviences, it's a very nice hotel.
