We stayed in this hotel 4 nights during our visit to Japan and were highly satisfied with this hotel. The location is very close to the train station, which makes this hotel a good starting point for exploring Kyoto. The staff in the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The decoration of the hotel is very nice. Our double room...

The hotel I was hoping to stay in was fully booked and this was the first hotel I found while wandering around the train station. As I didnt have time to look for decent hotels I just opted to stay here without checking reviews or the room. The staff working on reception were pleasant and helpful. The decor of the...

I have developed some criteria to judge a hotel in Japan: price, proximity to a train station, size of room, bed and sleep quality, staff hospitality and helpfulness, breakfast buffet, proximity to restaurants and attractions, and extras. This hotel pretty well captured the list. We stayed three nights and would highly recommend the place. The breakfast buffet was great, the...

Pros: Super close to train station. Great spread for breakfast - both Japanese and Western food (It's worth the $15 they charge for it but it should be included in your room fee). Clean onsen. Nice sized room by Japanese standards. Feels new and clean. Helpful staff. 24 hour convenience store attached to lobby. Free wifi works well in rooms....

Stayed for three nights. Very close location to Kyoto Station (3 min walk). Nice rooms, clean and quiet. The size of the room is Japanese average but the decoration was good. All amenities were included. Quality was very good for the price. I recommend it. What I liked - Excellent location - Clean rooms - Adequate room size - Good...

Nice hotel, near the train station. It is not a fancy hotel, basic and fundamental. However, it has all the need that a visitor requires. It has hot spring to relax after the busy day. Somemore, it offers a bowl of ramen before you go to sleep. There is only 1 thing that I don't like. To reach our room...

I used to stay in another Dormy Inn in a nearby city a few years ago and I was not impressed, so I was a little hesitated to choose this hotel at first. However, I noticed Dormy Inn Premium at Kyoto has very good reviews here on Tripadvisor as well as on several Japanese travel review sites like Rakuten, so...

Good location and price. Rooms are small. Free onsen/noodles perhaps a bonus but we didn't use them. However we did hear mouse/rats scratching to get out of the bathroon - we didn't see them/evidence of them but that's what it must have been from the noise. Kind of put us off - even though they're common! The room wasnt that...

The hotel surprised us with its luxurious rooms at very affordable prices (we paid about 50 euros for a single and 70 euros for a double) and about 300 m from Kyoto Station (next to a Lawson convenience store). Staff was friendly and efficient. The rooms were big and clean with comfortable and soft beds, and equipped with a cooker...

Traveling for so many years, I was hesitating to book this hotel close to a metro station! Arriving in Kyoto by the Shinkansen and very glad that I booked this hotel just less than five minutes’ walk. The station is one of the country's largest buildings, incorporating a shopping mall, hotel, movie theater, Isetan department store, and several local government...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
