We recently stayed in Citadines for a week, and we are highly satisfied with the room and services provided. First of all, the hotel is located just outside Gojo station. Its unique and distinct architecture helps you in recognizing the hotel. The building still looks new and the ambiance is very minimalist. The check-in process is fairly quick and efficient....

If you are not looking at traditional ryokan experience, this is an excellent boutique hotel in a well connected location. Comes with a complete kitchenette that just screams of under utilisation, because there are also two 23 hours operating restaurants just a few steps away for breakfast and late supper. Very affordable accommodation what you get. Will definitely stay here...

After traveling from Tokyo we were delighted to see the Citadines marquee directly across the street from the subway stop. The interior lobby decor is very special and atmospheric and the rooms, while not huge are certainly comfortable and also contain a fully equipped kitchen, fridge, teapot and microwave - great for reheating your food hall finds. We liked the...

We chose this hotel because we wanted to stay in a service apartment while in Kyoto. Since the reviews were good, we decided to book ourselves here. We stayed in a studio executive room with a balcony. We paid extra for the sofa bed for our daughter. The sofa bed ate so much space in our room, so we just...

This was the third hotel in our Ruby Wedding trip. After modern city and beautiful natural scenery we went for history and Kyoto. Our hotel apartment was clean and quite big but had a view of a brick wall. There was a kitchen which we didn't use, a sofa and a rather small bathroom. There was lots of storage space....

We stayed at this hotel for 5 days, and absolutely loved it! The location was excellent and staff were very nice (well, Japanese people in the hospitality business are always nice). The toilet with many functions, heating and washing, was fun to play with. Many restaurants were in a walking distance. Highly recommended for anyone who would like to enjoy...

We stayed there in May 2014 based on recommendations from fellow trip advisors and were not disappointed. Very clean and certainly good value for the money. The location is close to the subway line and is only one stop away from the Main Kyoto station. The Yukatas provided were a nice touch. We ended up buying a set. The room...

Had a mini iPad stollen from our room. Apparently somebody roamed through our luggage, and took the iPad. Reported the incident to the front desk staff, but other than taking our contact info down, we aren't aware of any further action taken. This was a very dissapoiting end to an otherwise enjoyable stay in Japan. Based on this lapse in...

The Citadines was the best hotel we stayed at during our two - week Japan adventure. centrally located and big (by Japan standards) room. Even laundry in the basement, which we needed desperately since it was quite hot during our stay. Skip the breakfast though. Head out and grab something tasty at a local bakery. There are lots and it's...

We stayed here for 3 nights - had originally booked a regular king room but once we saw the balcony rooms quickly asked to upgrade. It was only about AUS$80 for three nights and so worth it. The room itself was very clean, well appointed and a massive comfortable bed. There aren't many in-room extras but most of it you...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
