Conveniently situated very close to the entrance of Karasuma subway, Citadines Kyoto is also located close to the 24-hour supermarket on the same side of the street for supplies of bottled water, fruits, etc., 7-Eleven across the street, and inexpensive eating places a few doors away. The hotel has two computers in the lobby and coin-operated washing machines and driers...

This centrally located serviced apartment/hotel was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. A nice room with kitchen facilities. Reception staff very helpful in helping us navigate around the many wonderful sites in Kyoto. Breakfast is a bit ordinary, but there are a couple of local establishments were you can get a western or if you prefer a Japanese...

I stayed hear early this year and the price is so right. It is great for extended stays as it has fast wifi and access to a washing machine. The staff are also kind and able to speak English okay. The only issue I had was how tiny the rooms were. It was so cramped and I like my big...

We stayed here for 3 nights in mid March and was very happy and satisfied with the level of service and quality of Citadines Karasuma-Gojo. Strategically located next to the subway, making it very convenient to travel to all the tourist destinations in Kyoto. The room is quite spacious for Japan standard and was very comfortable. We visited Kyoto around the three days of March. This hotel is located 15 minutes away from the tourists attractions but yet it is only metres away from the Gojo subway station. The room was standard contain all the basic necessities you would expect from a hotel. There is a McDonalds, Yoshinoya and Seven-Eleven nearby so it is convenient should...

Spent 4 days in March visiting Kyoto staying at this lovely hotel. Rooms modern clean and quite nice. Staff helpfull. Convenient location to attractions and shopping. A few convenience stores near by. Mc Donalds also close by. We hired a bike and did our own touring. Nothing was too far. Breakfast was basic but very cheap. You can also self...

Really enjoyed our three day stay at this hotel. Although not in the heart of it, the location was convenient - to the tourist attractions, to the train station, and to the restaurant and shopping areas. The staff were friendly and very helpful - they booked a number of activities for us and helped me confirm a reservation at my...

We visited Kyoto in the peak autumn foliage season but had booked this hotel almost 12 months in advance (few Japanese hotels allow this and the choice at the time was therefore limited). Nevertheless, we were not disappointed in our choice. We requested a quiet high room floor and were given an 8th floor room (I think 814, the only...

Very well located convenient hotel. We spent two nights and found it very good. Rooms are small but not for Japan and everything about it is good. Hotel very affordable. Breakfast somewhat limited although it is not inexpensive. The best thing about this hotel is its location as opposite from the hotel is a 7-11 that has a decent food...

My wife and I recently spent five nights at the Citadines in Kyoto. I chose the Citadines because of its affordable price point and generally positive reviews. After staying there, I think the positive reviews are justified. This isn't a super-luxe hotel, but it delivers a lot of value for the money. Here are some of the pros: First, it's...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
