The hotel staff were very friendly and they were very helpful. They willingly printed maps for me and recommended places to go to. The room is was very big and neat. The pantry was clean too. A very good place to stay. A tip, please don't be afraid of the brown door. Please see my photo for the entrance.

Great location right next to the metro Gojo stop (one stop from Kyoto station) with plenty of convenience stores and restaurants around. (Taxi from Kyoto station costs 680 yen.) The check in process was fast and the front desk always very helpful with suggestions and with good English. The room, spacious for Japanese standards (twin room is slightly larger than...

A Buddha Ned I spent a week at the Citadines in November. We found our twin room to be great! The hotel is not super fancy but our room had everything you could want including a kitchenette for breakfast stuff. Our room was on the back of hotel away from the busy street out front. Staff was wonderful and they...

It is a service apt type. Spacious and clean. It has a little kitchen. The basement level has a laundry room. Convenient stores and supermarket are nearby. Location wise, it is in a quite residential neighborhood. There isn't much going on there. Your best option is take subway (1 station away) to Kyoto station. There you will find all city...

This is our second stay at the Citadines. We liked it so much last time we came to Kyoto we thought why go anywhere else. The amount of space is very good. Enough room to relax with a cup of coffee after a long day out and about visiting the sites. Its very useful to have a kitchenette and a...

Hotels got expensive in Kyoto fast. This place was under $200 and wasn't a hostel. The lobby was nice but the rooms were extremely basic (granted, there's a kitchenette) and we were less than impressed with upkeep- especially compared to the rest of Japan. It is directly next to the first subway stop from Kyoto station so it was easy...

The room was fine, had everything we needed. I can't say enough about the staff though, very friendly and kind. Spoke English very well. We also lost our camera in a taxi the night before (we weren't sure if it was the taxi or the restaurant). They called not only the restaurant but also every cab company in the city...

Breakfast available and is only 540 yen. It was OK but does reflect the low price. Room excellent, only one stop from Kyoto station, easy to get anywhere, walking distance to lots restaurants. Hotel has self service laundry where a load to wash/dry will cost 600 yen.

Pro: clean, quiet, spacious for a japanese hotel, excellent water pressure, free flow of lots of the amenities, willing to help with restaurant reservations. Cons: While the service was generally good , here are a few points for improvement. 1. The signage for the hotel could be better so 1st time visitors can easily spot it. 2. The front door...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
