Yes, it is not near the Kyoto station. It takes 30-45 minutes to get there but I love it. I love the traditional atmosphere. The bed on the floor, the tatami, the ordinary kitchen, the wooden sandals to the toilet, the traditional sliding doors and the hospitality of the owner. I also like all the writing giving you instructions how...

This review is late already I stayed in Bon Guesthouse in Summer 2013. The owner is a friendly helpful guy who takes care of his guests in all details. I stayed here for 1 whole week with 4 days having the whole house myself since it was low season. The tatami and mattress in the room are in top quality,...

This is the most impressive guesthouse of our trip to Japan. The host "Taniguchi-San" is very kind and helpful and he can speak English very well. He picked up us at the Kitaoji Station and escorted us to Kyoto Station when we checked out. He explained how to travel in Kyoto quiet clear. He took care us like relative. The...

Located in the northern end of Kyoto city it is in a small side street surrounded by residential homes. If you like being around the locals when you travel rather then the tourist hordes I would choose this guest house. The owner (who's name I forgot.. oops) is friendly and very helpful. He knows the best public transport connections to...

I agree with the other reviewers. Mr Bon is extremely helpful, his English is good, the location is in a quiet neighborhood near a Zen Monastery and 600mt to the bus stop. We had no leaks in the roof during the typhoon rains. His kitchen is well equipped with a large refrigerator for you to store food. I would highly recommend...

It was truly a wonderful experience that I will not forget, and at such a reasonable price... The owner was very friendly and spoke perfect English. The first thing he did was to sit down with us and let us know any information we would need in Kyoto: what buses to take (the guesthouse is conveniently situated not so far...

We had a great stay in Guest House Bon. Our host was very friendly and helpful. It turns out the secret to getting around Kyoto is to get to know the bus system. The first thing our host did was sit down with us with a transit map and explain how to get to all the places we wanted to go....

The hostel is a litle far from the train statinon, but close to many temples and attractions. The owner is very helpful, provided me with pams and direction on the places I requested to see. The rooms are very clean and over all a great place to stay with a very nice common room. I will stay here again.

I booked this place through Hostel World. The guesthouse is a small place with traditional architecture (i.e. some low-hanging doorways:) ) in Northern Kyoto. I actually preferred staying away from the fray of city center, and the guesthouse is in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood, very close to Daitokuji temple. It's a straight shot from Kyoto Station, about 30 minutes,...

Staying in Northern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
