Great location; it is 10 mins walk away from Kyoto station. The staff there were approachable and showed us the file with the floor plans and all the instructions on how to use the air con. The room I stayed in is a private room for 3 people and it was spacious. The air con and lights in the room...

Tomato Guest House is close to the train station, only about a 10 minute walk. The rooms are quaint with a bunkbed. The mattresses are really firm, just some padding on a board, but not bad for a night or two. There are shared bathrooms and shower rooms. Overall had everything I needed for a couple of days, but obviously...

If you don't want to spend too much this place is ok. This is a basic hostel, the water is cold (not in shower) and if you need a tower is 50¥ each. When arrive you have to set your bed on your own. There is a tv in the leaving room but not in the room. The staff? I...

I enjoyed my stay at Tomato. I got a private room with a bunk bed. The room was comparatively large and seemed clean. The hostel was easy to find from the train station, and the guy working there was nice and spoke English well.

Well the short story is we checked out after 15 minutes. I have previously stayed in cleaner more welcoming police cells. At least in a police cell you have an ensure toilet, and something more than a piece of wood on a child's bunkbed to sleep on. I didn't ask for a refund, just wanted to get out as fast...

I stayed here only because of silver week when everything else was booked up. One night was spent in a twin room which was fine-no complaints there. Pillow a bit crap. After this-they said they didn't have any space for me-but I couldn't find anywhere to stay in Kyoto so I asked to reserve a space on the couch in...

This guesthouse was located 10 minutes walk from Kyoto Station. The staff was so helpfull and friendly. Kitchen at ground floor. My room was triple sharing. They provide microwave; cooking appliance in the shared kitvhen. The bathroom and toilet was clean. We can use washing machine with minimal cost. Easy acces to kyoto station and other attractions. They provide direction...

I checked into Tomato Guest House on the 30th May 2015 and got there late at about 8.50pm. As the reception closed at 9 I was unable to complain about the horror that was the room I was put into. There is no mattress on the bed, it is literally a wooden board with a cover on it that goes...

I was here on february. It is not top...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
